Hi, I'm new so plese give me some help. I wish someone would do some posts with pics of the different cars that I have seen. First there is the single releases that have the wrong #15 printed for #16 Redline. The three card backs of #4-Francesco, #5-Holley, #6-Professor Z have #15 for Redline. I also have now found the corrected ones with Redline as #16. I have also seen different eyes on Acer and Grem and Professor Z and McQueen with party wheels and race team Fillmore. The Sarge in the 7 pack has two lines and the single has one line on the hood. There are some other ones that I can't think of off the top of my head, but I would love to see some articles on them. If someone could send me some info and Pics I would be thankful. thebreezz@hotmail.com

Welcome! Some of this stuff has been discussed and you may be able to find it by searching the site. Longtime Cars enthusiast, BMW, has some pictures of the error cardback and the corrected cardback to which you refer. Here is the link (hope it's ok MET): http://carsthetoys.yuku.com/to…..i-g6c0QuRE I remember hearing that all of the Cars with initially incorrect cardbacks were later found with corrected cardbacks. The different eyes and wheel variations are deliberate, but I'm not sure that there is an actual list of them yet, unless someone here is keeping a list privately. Cheers!

I've noticed the different eyes as well. In fact today I finally got the 2 pack mcqueen with yet amother francesco after going back & forth since may 15 when I picked up the 5 pack (w/ differnt eye mcqueen with party wheels. And kept my filmore after getting the 2 pack with traveling wheels a while ago. I know I'd kick myself later if I didn't. But I'll be danged if I'm going to buy the 7 pack for a different striped sarge. "collect almost all of them"?

Welcome to the Cars Madness! These cars have 2 different versions because of their facial expressions, so they are not errors:
Acer
Grem
McQueen w/ Party Wheels
McQueen w/ Racing Wheels
Prof. Z
Race Team Fillmore
Uncle Topolino
There maybe more, but these I can confirm as they are right in front of me. 🙂
As for the error issues, like Mike said, I would refer to BMW or someone else who has really kept track of that. Those are not my quart of oil!!

Wow, someone carve this info on a stone stele, quick! Sorry the link didn't work, Slicepie, it does from my iBook using Safari for some reason. Any way it is the page entitled "Cars 2 Case Lists" on that other site. Thanks BMW, you rock!

Well for whatever reason it is working now. I tried it 3 times earlier with no luck but this last time it loaded the page just fine.

That is a pretty comprehensive list but I would have to take exception with labeling rubber tire cars as variants. They just don't fit under the standard definition of a variant. They would be more of a sub-set.

Well, its a choice of words. So call it what you prefer.
Everyone wants a list of what is out, so this list is basically all the Cars 2 Cars out at this time regardless of how
you designate them.

The issue is not with the list, the list itself is great. The issue is the labeling. It's not really a choice of words as it is a changing of the definition of what constitutes a variant.
A variant in general terms is anything that deviates from the standard, usually only slightly, and is generally unintentional.
Rubber tire cars are more than a slight deviation from the standard and are intentionally produced that way and as such are marketed in a different package. That breaks both of the main rules regarding the definition of a variant. Thus, not a variant.

Ok Jake, I do know what a variant is.
I will just say the list comprises all the different Cars 2 out in various manner of manufacture. We decided rather than show say 100 different Cars, we would show each Car of the original release and let people decide if they want to collect all the types.

Great, I am glad we're in agreement then! And I am looking forward to seeing the updated list with rubber tire cars labeled as something other than variants. 😉

There are variant Holleys with cardback and wheels
cardback 15/15 with backwards spokes.
cardback 15/15 forwards spokes
cardback 15/16 with backwards spokes
cardback 16/16 forwards spokes
Shouldn't the backwards spokes be considered production goofs rather than variants?

I was just thinking the same thing, John. That is a production error becuase the worker put them on the wrong direction.

It is a production error, but what would make it a variant is that it was fairly widely produced so somewhat easily available.

It's indeed a "common error", but still not a variant.
A variant is an element that gets changed in later production, like the Supercharged Fabulous Hudson Hornet, first produced with silver rims but later with red ones.
