My son who will be turning 3 soon is very-much obsessed with the movie Cars. We just decided to decorate his room in a Cars theme as a surprise for his birthday, and now that I've purchased just about every Cars product under the sun, I'm wondering how much mileage we'll get out of the toys, etc.
At what age did your child stop being interested in Cars, and/or completely reject them as too young? Is it possible that my son will still enjoy playing with the toys past kindergarten?

I started my son at 2 (last Christmas) and he took to them right away. My 6.5 year old daughter loves the movies and the toys still. My 6.5 year old nephew is pretty much done with them.

Manifold Jr. looooved Cars from age 2.5 through age 5.5 or so. It was kindergarten playground lore that ruined our Cars run – Star Wars, Angry Birds, and the Legos, Minecraft, and Ganggham Style dancing that they eventually led to…. now the Cars sit on the shelf.

BobbyJack started to like Cars right before his 2nd birthday. He is now 5 1/2 and doesn't really care all that much when I find new Cars. He seems to really be into Planes though. Just our Take Flight Cars get any playtime right now. He is really into Transformers right now.

My grandson outgrew Cars when he was 7… he started liking them for a little bit when he was 9… he'll be 11 next month – he just returned every Car that I'd given him to me a couple of weeks ago.
He's now into Transformers and Lego.

We started at age 3 1/2 ish and ended around 8…we transitioned to StarWars and more complex lego sets…
he still helps me collect, though..
for him now, he's ten, SW figures are gone and it's all about iPods, music and Minecraft…
He still loves baseball, soccer and basketball…thanks goodness!

I think it totally depends on the child. I have been collecting since I was 14.5 and still going strong (I collect for me and my sister and we show no signs of losing interest). I am now 21.5! It seems some never get tired of them and some do. I think it is really hard to say. I think it is sad when kids think they can't play with things because they are "too old for it" .

My wife and I have no kids and I picked up a King right before the movie came out. Which led to more and more and now 7 years later I show no signs of outgrowing them. Something about cars with faces.

We have 2 sons. 6 yrs 4 mos and 2 yrs 9 mos. The 6 yo seems to be at the tail end of being interested in Cars. He still shows an interest every now and then, but not like he used to. The only reason he is really interested now is Finn McMissile because he is in the "spy" stage now.
He is still interested in "real" scale car and truck diecasts (1:24 scale, 1:18 scale, 1:43 scale, 1:64 scale), but not so much Disney Cars.
For example, we were at Kmart the other day and he had no interest in the Mary Esgocar or the Planes, but wanted a Despicable Me Minion instead.
The (almost) 3 year old likes the movies a lot and is somewhat into the toys.
It seems the sweet spot is between about 3 and 5.5 in general.
I am 39 and am more into Cars than either of them!

Okay…so it seems the adults are the ones that are hopelessly addicted and not the kids! They hold on for 3-4 years? We just keep going!
I agree with Wraukn! Something about Cars with eyes is addicting for me!
