I guess I should preface this with the note of these being cars collector related, otherwise I could go on forever.
I'm assuming I am not alone here, but since we started as casual collectors years ago, I have done some really silly things, like (in no order of stupidity):
- left a chuy on the peg
- passed up all the radiator springs playsets
- didn't get all the cars from kmart day 2, since "we didn't need rubber tire versions of cars we already had"
- thought, "who in their right mind would buy a pink tinted cruising mcqueen (does anybody know what was up with those?)
- boycotted the semis. Ok, that's not so silly since they always annoyed me. But now that I am finding out how close we are to checking off all the cars in the opener checklist they are haunting me.
- left a frank on the peg.
- bought a lenticular. It started with the token mcqueen. Then the paint mask mcqueen since it was a chase from a kmart day. Then all the other chase vehicles. Still really really do not like them but felt forced to get them just because they are chase. My daughter even knows we don't buy "googly eye cars".
I am sure I can think of more, these have just been on my mind lately.
Am I the only one? Or were you all pros from day 1?

I here ya on a lot of these. Leaving a Polly Puddlejumper on the pegs, the only one I ever saw in a store, was a big one. At the time, I thought we would only get the characters central to the story. However, leaving anything on the pegs can be a great thing, and you can feel good about it, because there is a good chance that it will end up in the hands of a true fan and/or make a child's day!

Left Dexter Hoover with checkered flag on the peg. Left several Franks. At least 5 Chuys. Wish I had grabbed more Patokaas- actually I wish I grabbed more of all the Tokyo Mater cars. I left a couple Muddy McQueens, Blowing Bubbles Mater too. Early on in my collecting life I left a lot of Final Laps behind because they were a buck more. Oh well, you live and learn. And like MM said, somebody else was happy to get those cars that I left on the peg, so it's all good.

Left a whole bunch of Muddy McQueen's on the pegs, I think I even returned a few to the store!

I think I'm guilty of opening an impound snot rod…with yes…wait for it… a confetti blister !…
I've left Dexter with checkered flag on the pegs when the wave first hit…also left a RDMS cuz I already had 2 carded and one open…at the time…few people were looking for it…
I've NEVER left a Frank on the pegs…and only found Bessie once in the wild…I've been guilty of passing on both Toyko mater with oil Stains and Chuys….
Hey…if I could see into the future, I'd be a billionaire.

This could go on forever when it 'does' come to Cars. Lol.
#1 Trading away 8-10 Franks for Cars I could have found
#2 Trading 4 Bessies for Cars I could have found
#3 Trading away 6 Chuys for Cars I could have found (one was straight up for a Wilmar Flatz… ouch)
#4 Returning 4 Patokaas, L&G w/ oil cans, 4 Miles Malone and 4 Leroys
#5 Passing over an infinite amount of Tokyo Maters and Rescue Squad Maters
#6 Ignoring the Final Lap cars in the beginning
#7 Not taking all the Franks that I could of had
#8 Remembering before I started collecting seeing a MSOS set at a flea market and paying it no mind.
For the regrets there is good. Whoever I traded with got nice things and I left Franks so the children could have some too.

I have done all of those. Left a Frank in the cube. Returned Final Lap cars that no one wanted to trade for two weeks later. Never bought a semi even though my son loves the one his grandmother bought him. (He asks me where his trailer is.) Never getting any Patookas to trade. Left a Chuy on the pegs at Christmas for another kid. Trying to make up for it by picking up the lenticulars of obscure characters for the new fans that will join in the fun in a couple of months.

My biggest mistake was having the choice of buying Dirt Track Doc or Lightning Ramone. Each of those were once sold in a 3 pack, and I bought Lightning Ramone. Guess which one was the rare one? Dirt Track Doc. Guess which was a Pegwarmer at my Wal-Mart for 3 months? Lightning Ramone. =P

Other mistakes:
1. Not buying Vinyl Toupee and Shifty Drug Hauler when they were at Kohls. Would you buy them for $18.99 each?
2. Also not buying the Tormentor and Frightning McMean at Kohls.
3. And a few other I-didn't-buy-because-of-outrageous-prices-Cars.

I did buy three sets of those at kohl's….
Traded them away for way more than the 18.99…well worth the investment 🙂

I can feel the pain, my who knew moment was at a target and there was a bubba and mater along with the 3 pack showgirls, I didn't have enough money to buy them and thought " they'll be here next week" damn I still don't have the money to buy them…..

As soon as the Final Laps appeared, we didn't think that was going to be it, (like Polly, Dexter, Antonio and then Muddy McQueen and RDMS) and didn't buy the ones that were left on the pegs…

I live in a border town in Canada (NB-ME) so I have a lot of USA and Intl items I left on shelves…but the biggest would be:
1. At least 3 El Materdors as I already had 1 openned and 1 sealed.
2. Picked up only 3 Supercharged Lizzies extras…they were peg warmers at K-M for a long time…..there were at least another 5-7 there…reduced…then gone!
3.Have picked up only one pink hue mcqueen (was in Mac set along with Sally) at Canadian WM…I already had one in display case…There were 5+
4.BIGGEST thing I have done is to NOT have posted my Cars1 want list to complete collection (+/-20) and post along my doubles to sell or trade (list still a work in process…+/-350 Cars , Haulers, Launchers, ). And now I am just trying to figure out this new Forum way of doing things.

Leaving a Leroy Traffik, and Patti, and don't get me started about how I boycotted Toons until like the last case with Rodney, then began to look for them all. And then there' the great Hauler Boycott and the Shiny Wax team set I left there as well.

Bumper Save, have you been collecting from the beginning? Tough break on the Shiny Wax. Was it horizontal or vertical?

Pardon me, guys, I was thinking "team" as in hauler+car+pitty, which of course never was released. I love those old vertical 3-packs with the chief's and pitty's actual name displayed. Were you eventually able to find one?

Horizontal. And I have been collecting since WOC in 07 but have only really known what the heck I was doing since maybe at earliest 09. Then I showed up at CTT, later here, and then PCD and was like, man, I'm stupid, I should have gotten that!

Yeah, I got a nice deal from someone selling their collection. A vertical one, not the horizontal like I saw in store, but hey, it's all the same to an opener.
