I do iOS and android app development on the side
I'm wondering if I build a cars app for android and ios would you pay $1 for it?
It would include
Hd front and back pics of all cars and sets from 2006-present
Use camera phone to scan your car to add to your collection

I'm also working on a complete hot wheels app just the same but cars I could do fairly quick as there are millions of hot wheels

Let me know what you think and if in favor of it what would you like to see integrated?

Android, I'd buy.

Maybe save the HD pictures for version 2? Our biggest need is simply to know if we already have a particular car in our collection or not when we see one in the store that we don't recognize right off. "Hmm, Crusin' McQueen with whitewalls, fixed eyes, do we have that version already?"

App would have a full roster of all released and non-released Cars, we'd probably use a tablet for our initial input. Go through the collection once and take inventory to build the database.

How would the in-store scanning work, barcodes are shared by all singles, two-packs etc. aren't they? Maybe the barcode narrows it down for the app followed by color recognition from the camera then the user is given a short list of likely matches? Seems very sophisticated for $1!  Smile

The other part of the puzzle is keeping the database up-to-date as we buy or trade away Cars. Cloud storage of the data could simplify that. Maybe your master roster of all released Cars is on Google somewhere and our devices only need to hold a token list of our own collections, photos and other information would not be duplicated that way?

A major benefit would be the ability to give a unique code to friends and family in other parts of the country. The wife's sister ten states away is always asking what she should look for when she's in the store, but the collection is always changing and explaining the differences between one Mater and ten other variants is impossible. If a non-collector could scan and find something the boys didn't have and if then that Car were immediately marked as 'found' or 'acquired by Aunt Lisa' in our list… well, that would be worth $3 at least! Smile

No, you're thinking about the Target DPCI system.

All Cars packages have different barcodes.

I just don't recall if they change from Series to Series. For instance, does Lightning McQueen on Supercharged cardback have the same UPC as Lightning McQueen on World of Cars cardback?
