Took the boys to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles today. We saw the three RV models to be auctioned off and the new Cars display exhibit. (which I understand will be there for about six months)Since the launch of the first Cars film in June 2006 Mattel has produced more than 200 million die-cast Cars vehicles featuring more than 500 unique designs from the films.———
There are 926 new characters in Cars 2. Mattel released 98 different Cars 2 vehicles in 2011. By the end of 2012, Mattel will have released another 96 different Cars 2 vehicles. There is a plan to release Trev Diesel, Nelson Blindspot, Bud and Syd VanDerKamper in a new series even larger than Mattel's current 'oversized' die-cast Cars.

Great pics John, thanks. Wish I could get down there to see this for myself. Seeing some of these Cars that we'll never have makes me just incredibly sad, though….

The other 2012 Super Chase Cars. (but looking hard at the black covers we think the cars under wraps are not the actual cars but simply handy placeholders)

Thanks for sharing your great photos… I really like the haulers… and the N2O Cola Team Crew set… it would be great to be able to add those (and the other 17 launchers) to the collection.

Wow, nice photos. I hardly comment here, but I saw these and really like them. However, at the same time, I am also sad that they never made these, really wish they did. Funny how it seems that they said lots of good things at the exhibit, yet they failed to mention lenticulars, which almost killed off the line. And, I agree with what someone else said on the main blog, why support Mattel if they don't support us. I really hope we see at least the RVs, I also like Nelson. I also hope they rerelease Chuck and other megas that were hard to find or weren't released here in the US, thanks to those semis (Another mistake by Mattel). Are the RVs still going to be released?

Without a Target anywhere near me (aka Final Lap), I have gotten used to Lenticulars. Some have been pretty bad, but a select few of mine are near perfect. Duh I like the normal Cars better, but I'm still not a Mater-hater for Lentys, and I think a few others on here agree with me.

I do have several Targets close to me, but there were some cars I just never saw as final lap, and others, like Marlon, I got the lenticular version just to save money. I agree with you, I prefer regular eyes, but I still tolerate the way lenticulars look. The reason why I hate them is not because of the eyes, which some are cool but others are terrible, but because I feel it really held up the line. Had they not even done lenticulars, then rather than focusing on rereleasing cars in lenticular form, they could've made more final laps in higher quantities, and they would've been less money, and easier to find. Also, John said that Bud, Syd, Nelson, and Trev would be released in a large scale series. Is that true? I hope they, along with the rest of the are shown, will be released. If they are, when? I hope Mattel isn't teasing us again with great cars that they say will be released, and then they don't.
