Really wasn't looking forward to this Kmart Day assortment. After looking at the abuse my son's World Grand Prix Race cars were taking during the last couple of months, I decided that this would be a good opportunity to get some new race cars for display. We headed out to Kmart this morning and had to let customer service know there was supposed to be a Cars Collector Event going on. She called the manager and they brought two Master Cases out to the front and set up a table. A couple of other dads and their kids showed up and we had plenty of cars to choose from. They offered my son a poster and he told the guys he had that already. I told the guys to go ahead and give it to someone else who doesn't have one. We paid for our cars, used the $5 off Birthday Club coupon, and began to walk out of the store. Bobbyjack wanted to carry the sack of cars.
I asked him which one of the race cars in the bag was his favorite.
He dug around and pulled out the one I figured he would pull out.
So because our kids love him so much, Mattel thinks it is good idea to have at least 5 McQueens in every case.
So we get home, and because my son already has these cars, he was wondering what we were going to do with the new ones. I told him that we were going to put them in the plastic boxes like his other race cars. He would still be able to play with his old World Grand Prix cars.
He seemed to think this was a good idea and helped me open them and put them in the boxes.

"This is kind of fun…"
So now we had them all boxed up, we decided to put the name plates from the packages on them too.
They turned out looking pretty good so we made some room on the shelf…
We put them right next to our poor man's Motor Speedway of the South.
Looking forward to getting Rip Clutchgonski to finish this display.

Oh man, they look great! The tags are a nice touch too. Glad to see your boy had some fun with the day.
It looks like you have Aggro McQueen as your McQueen for the SOTS set, is that right? That's funny, because he is the casting I set aside for our poor man's set too.

I thought the Aggro Lightning McQueen fit in better with all the other race cars on the track. Can't seem to recall him having the happy face very much while on the track. The boxes are the M2 plastic cases. Walmart cleared them out a couple months ago. $3 for a 5 pack wasn't too bad. Haven't seen any more lately. I have enough in reserve for Rip Clutchgonski and the rest of the metallic finish WGP cars if they ever finish them.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is "Aggro" McQueen?
Do you guys shave the screw nipples off your M2 cases so the Cars will sit in them with their tires actually touching the bottom of the case?
How do you stick the name tag to the case?
Great photo-essay, BTW.

He has a race-face like the rest of the piston cup racers (minus the King and Chick). He was in the 3-pack with the Dinoco Showgirls, I think.

Aggro McQueen was the McQueen that came with the Dinoco Showgirls … he looks angry … though … I still cannot figure out why he could be so angry with company like THAT in the box with him!! VA VA VA VOOOM

They come with wire that can go around the wheels so you can secure non-M2 cars in the boxes. But since my son still likes to play with the Piston cup cars, I just have them sitting in the box with the bottom of the cars resting on the screw nipples.
The name tags still have a small amount of adhesive on the back from the packaging so they still stick to the base. They are designed for you to print your own labels to place on the base, so you can pretty much use glue if you wanted. With the plastic over them, the name tag won't go anywhere. I'm going to see if my wife can print me out some labels for the Piston Cup cars.

I haven't been there in a while, but it's possible. I guess Walmart clearance aisles would be the first place to look, as Hobbytown would be fuuuul price, like $2 per single box I think. Good luck.

Tom,
I cut the name plates to fit and jsut used a glue stick for now…mainly a trial run…I will probably make my own labels with the computer…but since the cars 2 package name badges were ideal, I didn't do that yet…
I didn't shave off the nub…I like how most of the cars sat just slightly "suspended"…that's just my excuse for not thinking about snipping them off 🙂
If anyone is willing to sell me some case (i will accept a small profit) I'd love to buy some…I'm running low and I only scored six 5 packs last time..
