Good evening,

I was wandering…was there ever a population survey done to see how many of the 1000 sets still remain intact?

I have seen quite a few Apple, Dale, Tach-O-Mint sold as singles and  all the other 33 cars in package deals?

If anyone has feeback to provide me it would be much appreciated.

Best regards to all T5er,

Rino

Thanks Wraukn for your reply…much appreciated!

I just pruchased mine "Sealed up"…to open or not there lies the question!?

I just wanted to see just how many remained intacted "sealed" or not.

Of the 1000 sets quite a few have to have been opened and dismanteled for resale…Apple being THE most desired one.

What do you think?

Rino

One set on display I bought direct from the Redline Club. Still have all the packaging and documentation stored in a closet.

Over the years a few sets were destroyed by fire and flood. Some were opened and played with.

A long ago survey was taken on CTT, but totally out of date.  An estimate of how many sets are still intact, is going to be hard to find out.

in 2008 when prices went through the roof there were 100 to 200 sets parted out and sold by individual car on ebay.  The display box sold separately, the letter and hologram sold separately. I know a person who bought 5 letters and holograms on ebay.

Mint Motor Speedway Display boxes with the plinth and all the clips are very hard to get now. A few came with damaged acrylic bases from the factory, of course you would have to open to see if the acrylic base was undamaged.

Mine is totally mint.

a pure guess is 20 percent were damaged, destroyed or parted out.

I meant to add this,

One MSOTS set owned by a Pixar Employee was sent to the Peterson Museum for the display of Cars last year.  It was loaned.  Unfortunately the person packing it for shipment did not secure the Cars, and as a result there was damage.  If you look at the Apple Car they displayed from the Pixar person it  has many chips on the spoiler and other places.

Another person sent me a picture of an original Apple he bought in a set that was mailed incorrectly and the car was so damaged it was in pieces.

Its a sad picture.

At this time how many pristine original real 1 of 1000 undamaged unchipped apples are left?

I don't know. But clearly  Rarer and rarer by the day. Back door fakes may now exceed the real deal.

Thank you BMW for replying to my post.

The set I bought is sealed…I got the letter & Hollogram (0855 / 1000)(AB1414) and even the enveloppe in which the letter was addressed to the Original Owner and Post Marked San Jose CA 951.. date: 30 JUL 2008

Date on set reads 2637 EA and Bar Code: 0 00 27084 49955 1.

Now me question to you…Do I open it to verify content integrity OR Do I keep it intact?

Regards,

Rino

Ultimately that is up to you Rino.  What is your intended use of the set?  To know you have one, or to hold on to for resale at a later date?

I bought my first one right from the Red Line club, the 2nd I bought off ebay a week after they were released for $350 plus ship. That one I do not have the hologram sticker for but I do have the one Mattel sent to me. I was tempted many times to sell one when they skyrocketed on ebay but I resisted. It's still the part of the collection that everyone says "WOW" when they see it.

I am glad you bring up this topic! 1st if you want the item to hold value like the 350.00 you spent I would keep it unopened. Kinda like that new car you drive off the show room floor and it drops in value as you drive down the street. Besides unless you are going to sit down with your child and ram the Apple car into the other cars, you can get all the cars from other releases to play with. KEEP IT SEALED!
I also suggested that the members should have complete survey on all the series so we could get a better grip on real sparsity. I have a Impound Snot Rod with confetti and it has been said that maybe 100 were made and less then 50 may still be unopened or the Speedway started with 1000 but how many are now still intact. I have seen 2 for sale lately on eBay and some of the replies have stated they have 2.
I am all in if we can come up with a survey. What if the supercharged movie moments international 2 pk of Flea & Flick with U S name plate has only 40 left unopened. You might say it is rarer then the hardest to fine Fillmore/Fillmore that may have 1000 still unopened. It would help people trade, like is a International Finn with straight card back Porto Corso a even trade for a super chase Frosty. P.S. DOES ANYONE HAVE A SUPERCHARGED INTERNATIONAL FLEA & FLIK WITH US LABEL. Thanks Thebreezz

This is what I received when I purchased direct from Hot Wheels.

1. Packing Slip dated 5/20/08 from Hot Wheels, Middleton, Wisconsin It has the order number box weight, lot number price and customer number. along with the purchaser's name and address, purchase price.

2. Printed Order Status dated May 20, 2008 from Hotwheels Shop. Same information  with payment method, billing address, Purchase total.

3. Checkout confirmation form from Hotwheels Shop.com dated May 20, 2008.  Has payment method, billing address, Order Summary, Shipping Address, and Item number.

4. Letter from Hot Wheels  signed by Mark Morse, with serial numbered hologram sticker,  it will be stapled to the letter at the bottom. The envelope the letter came in dated July 24, 2008 with the purchasers name and address on the envelope.

5. Original packing box and outer box.  The packing materials with the display box.

Thats what I would want if I were buying a set on the secondary market.

My set is adult owned and on display, its beautiful. Its no fun looking at a ugly cardboard box.  This is the finest Disney Pixar set ever made. The cars are almost without flaws.

You can't see the beautiful finishes on the cars when they are hidden in a box.

I have 1 MSOTS,  its the highlight of my collection. its no. 264 of 1000

"It would help people trade, like is a International Finn with straight card back Porto Corso a even trade for a super chase Frosty. "

Its certainly rare, few have seen one. I had 3  unibody but traded 1  to a German Collector (I mentioned this before) because he is a completest and could not find one in Germany.

There were 2 versions on straight card, both were international only.

I have  a segmented international finn straight card which came  from a Spanish collector and a unibody international finn straight card from the same person.

The other 2 unibody Finn straight card back came from France, one of which is now back in Europe. that Finn has earned his frequent flier miles.

But they tell me these were not easy to find in Europe either. So are they as rare as Frosty?

Thank you everyone who took the time to anwser my question…much appreciated!

As of today I have not opened the set…deadline to return if it is damaged is friday!

What to do?Confused

I just want to open the Set to make sure ALL is OK then "re-seal" it!

Do you think I will loose value by proceeding this way?

I paid in the 4 digits USD + CDN exchange + Customs!!!

My mind says LOOK to reassure myself that the Set is OK…if not I can recover my investment $$$$.$$

My heart says KEEP IT INTACT to assure Maximum Resale Value in the years to come….wonder if I will get the 4 figures plus?

My heart also says…I have been wanting one of these Sets for forever!!!

On another note, I have seen in the past a post in which readers sent in their information on their set(s). Information provided were the date stamp under the cars that made up their respective sets and hologram #.

Regards,

I say open it and put it on display as the centerpiece of your collection! I agree with BMW, just looking at a cardboard box is uneventful.

Wraunkin & BMW…Thank you both for your insight in my dilema..

To OPEN or  NOT to OPEN…I said earlier: "…My heart also says…I have been wanting one of these Sets for forever!!!"

So..sometime on the weekend, I shall open it to see condition….then I shall display it.

I will also take time to note the Cars rpoduction Code…Maybe we could get the ball rolling to get better statistics.

I think MET should get involved…what do you think…then again he seems very busy!

Thanks again to hose of you who have replied.

Best regard to T5ers,

Rino,

Good for you. Its a set that deserves to be on display.

Met did a date code list a long time ago with about 20 responses.

Here is my list of production codes, which includes the Speedway of the South Race Cars.

Open and verify it is what it is. (open from the bottom to preserve the top tape.

There was horror stories about these """sets""" sold on ebay with JUST phone books inside. (of course the bottom tape was compromised)

BMW and I KNOW what to look for as far as "Backdoor" Apple cars. We can spot them immediately. We both have done in depth critics and saved a bunch of people heartaches.

Mine was bought from the Red Line Club and cover for the set and letter are autographed by Martin Arriola.

Well curiosity finally got the best of me and I finally opened my MSOTS set yesterday.

Took Nascarfan's advise to open it at the bottom…took 30+ pictures (not counting the cars  1 by 1)…Real Deal…YES!!! The Case is intact and The Cars are BEAUTIFULLLLLLL!!!!!

Production # 855 / 1000

I put everything back in the box and taped it up…and put it with my other cars that are not on display yet.

I have not displayed it yet as it is a Christmas gift from me to me….and my wife does not know yet!Surprised

Not just the Apple car was counterfeited, Taco Mint was and others. You did pass the test on the photos I sent you… So at least you know what to look for on the Apple

I have a perhaps more obscure question on the MSOS set.  In the opening sequence, LMQ says "1 winner, 42 losers" — so if the MSOS set includes 36 racers, where are the other seven cars?

After all, gas can is my middle name … eh, not really
