When I collect enough, I like to dig it out and take a good whiff!

Let's not forget the most famous character variant of all:
#1a – Lightning McQueen
#1b – Lightning McQueen (Rust-Eze on spoiler)

I was literally thinking of that also! Two minds think alike I guess.
There's also the variant Dinoco McQueen where he's looking straight forward in the Single but he's looking to the side in the 3 Pack w/ Gold Mia and Tia.

Honestly I didn't know there were as many variants out there till I picked up the take 5 checklists. We started as casual collectors but are now close to completion on cars 1. So all of a sudden i'm checking to see what color charlie checkers tail lights are. And does barney have plastic wings? How about boosts rims? When does it end?!?!? : )

You're thinking of Bling Bling McQueen.

I think our yellow flag, checkered flag, and lenty green flag Dexter Hoover all have different expressions. Not exactly sure though because I'm not at home. Going to check tonight…
True, but Steve AKA Poppa said "I do not mean a mouth twisted slightly different".
That being said, Steve, how do you classify Marco (the Jet) & Stu Bop as well as Richard Kensington Clayton & Marco Axelbender (the SUV)? Both pairs are identical vehicles besides eyes, mouths, etc., etc., etc. Do you still collect 'em all?
That being said, I collected Cars, The Original unopened by the number with the major variations. Of course, if you collected Cars One opened or unopened the possibilities were exhausting. I started with the Desert art and considered collecting each packaging variant, but, gave up as too many duplicates, lack of space and too costly. I was not interested in the lenticulars unless it was a totally new casting, and, when it appeared in Final Lap I tossed it. Still, if you collected only by the numbered checklist as a late comers, you missed many of the Wal-Mart 8 and of course the K Mart days issues. Frankly, I do not even known anymore, what I bought. I have not bought any Cars 2, except for Sarge, because I thought the movie was sub par for a Pixar creation. Basically Cars 2 was created to sell toys. The story line is too complicated for the young kids to follow.

The final count is 495 if you count all mainline, oversized, haulers, variants, all toons, all holiday storytellers and the 3 Disney Stores that are mostly in scale (paddy, i-screamer & Frank). This includes 35 rubber tire racers additions also.
This does not include lenticulars. I think I counted 110 with variants but that's unofficial. I'll eventually have a final, final count.
