Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: San Diego Comic Con 4-Day Pass Sold Out

Hard to believe – with over 4 months to go, already sold out …

comic-con-sdComic Con website and all the registration info you will need. Remember if you live in the SD area, you can also volunteer a day and get a free ticket for another day.

While most of you have been to toy shows, antique faires or comic book shows, those who not gone to SDCC, it’s another world. It’s THREE football fields long of toys, movies studios, and comic books AND there are great and interesting sessions all day long – with movie screenings that start late into the night.

It will pretty much take you 5-6 hours to go from one end of the show to another if you want to look at most booths – it will probably take you 40-minutes of serious walking to move through the crowds even if you do not stop to look at anything from one end of the show to the other end. While people are all very polite, if you loathe a mass of humanity in one room, SDCC might not be your place to go. It will probably take you a serious 15-minute walk from the back end of the hall to the front so – yep, lots of people.

But it is the Super Bowl of toys, movies & comic books AND you get to wander on the field (of course, so do 75,000 other people).

For those traveling to SD, you can stay in one of the downtown/gaslamp district hotels (the SDCC registration page probably has special rates) – they are all very nice though not your biggest bargain depending on how many people are traveling with you. The advantage is you can walk to the show. If you plan on buying lots of things, this could be a hinderance as you will need to walk back (or take a cab). There is plenty of food & drinking places in downtown but as you can imagine, it will be pretty busy at times …

There is parking under the facility and next door but the lots fill up very fast so if you are not there by 6-7 AM, forget it. Leaving the parking lot is only a problem on the first night as preview night is short so everyone spills out as it closes at once – the other days, people stagger away at different times.

So, you’ll probably need to rent a car anyway unless you are driving there – you can stay further away in other coastal cities (it’s cheaper inland but not nearly as nice) and depending on your interest and “mission,” at SDCC. Basically if you are not there at 6-7 AM, the line starts to stretch and if you show up at 8-9 AM, you have a 60-90 minute wait to get into the hall anyway – might as well have a leisurely brunch and show up at 11 AM – though parking will be much tougher.

There are plenty of places along the coast in SD and of course, rates will drop the further you are from downtown. Keep in mind that traffic like any big city is bad during commute hours.

The zoo & wildlife park is amazing, there’s LegoLand for kids and it’s a 2-hour drive to Orange County-Disneyland with not much traffic … or for adults, the gas lamp district and all the coastal cities are nice, fun, romantic and full of great places to dine.

The weather in SD during summer is strangely sometimes a little cooler because there’s more fog but downtown is generally sunnier – probably about 85 degrees …

See you there!

I am really looking forward to going… And yes, San Diego is as nice as MET says it is. I would agree that going to a Lakers game sounds fun, especially when the local team (Padres) looks to be the wost team in the sport this year.

    Ladies and Gentlecars,

I’m waiting for the protoypes with the correct double Red Ransburg finish to arrive from HK. They were suppossed to be in this week but seems they’re having some trouble getting it perfect. It’s a little tricky. They should be in this week, I’m on vacation but will take photos and post ASAP. Unfortunately they don’t want to leak until April 10, product only, then in May product in light up diorama. It looks great, not sure how to top this one next year.

The Toy Guru said that way we spread out the news/buzz………….

Yeah, Met is correct in saying that you’ll be able to purchase on Matty as well. Just a shame that Target or who ever is actually selling Disney/Pixar Cars product on line before Carscomatose Matty. That really bumms me out.

My MOU product is selling out though. Guess I have to look at the glass half full. 🙂

I go every year. I love it. The crowds drive me crazy but I still love it. I can only handle the floor so much. It is crazy. Last year really stressed me out with the LSM. I felt like a huge failure. First time I have ever seen it that hard to get an exclusive. Then the guy who ripped people off. It was bad. I am glad they put a limit this year. Too many people waited in line for hours multiple days only the lose out. Hopefully Mattel will deal with the line issue too by giving out numbers the way Hasbro does. Then you come back at the time noted and get in line. It is fair and a whole lot less crazy.

My favorite part is hall H. Love to hang out all day there Friday and Saturday. Incredible footage, great swag and some awesome pics.

I prepared for this year. I got the 4 day pass…and i’m staying in the Gas Lamp District for the first two nights, then at sisters house. I live in Las Vegas now, but it’s nice to still have my family in SD! Anyone attending Preview night on wednesday for 4 day pass holders only? Gotta get the Maters! “Pit Stop” of Las Vegas

  • WillWaffle4567 says:

    🙂

  • Jinzo says:

What the? Wow that was fast. Have to order my Friday passes soon then…that was too fast…WOW

  • Shelby says:

So is there anyone going who can pick up the exclusive for those who can’t? Nascarfan was going to until his situation changed – has anyone else volunteered?

(MET: Matty will have them – Matty might not have any CARS before then but it’ll have that).

living on the other side of the world here doesn’t help. How I long for a trip to the US. I’m already planning it.. SDCC, Route 66, Disneyland, a Lakers game.. I could go on.

The info you give is great Met for people wishing to attend. Do you also have some winning lotto numbers?

(MET: Ryan Air & Southwest Air and you’re here in sunny SD for a couple hundred bucks … a Laker ticket, well in July, is training camp open? You might be able to get that ticket 🙂 ).

  • 5oclockshadow says:

umm no.. would love to go, but 3 small kids and makes it near impossible.

  • Met-

Will you have info and pictures of the SDCC Cars and MMs exclusives soon?

    Thanks!

    (MET: April)

    • Chiguy says:

The SDCC exclusive for Cars is Rescue Squad Mater in double Red Ransburg with Mia and Tia as Dalmations, packed out on a try me light up diorama. SDCC will be $30.00, 4 per person max

(MET: 4 per person? Oh, you mean that other line 🙂 … ).

  • Monica says:

  • Josh says:

I had considered it a couple months ago but finally decided that with a 2.5 year old and a 9 month old it probably wouldnt make for a good family vacation…maybe next year! The good thing is my wife was very open about it when we talked, so YEAH!!

  • MiaSenorita says:

what?? I wish I could go!
