Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Todd, Pizza Planet Truck – Brown Out
Todd, the Pizza planet truck will be here in a few months … May or June … meanwhile, there are a few who um, escaped out the factory back door …
Normally, I’m not big of eBay picture graboidism but in this case, it’s all for journalism … the truth and of course, the truth shall set you free (or $2.97 or $3.47 or $8.00 if you’re in Europe).
Here is proto Todd as pictured from SDCC & re-shown at NYCC – the final should pretty much look like this … of course, as the sides are supposed to be riddled with rust dots and show wear & tear, each Todd will be slightly different if you get down to the micro level but he should pretty much look like this.
And again, only Mattel, Pixar & Martin (& his team) would expend so much effort to give us a beater pickup that in real life would sell for slightly more than the diecast 🙂 … and of course, the first actual Todd’s in real authentic packaging will sell for $100 🙂
This photo on eBay is authentic in some sense but clearly, it is lifted from the middle of production or at the tail end where it rested in a REJECT pile … so it’s rare in that sense that if you want a dead panda or a dead Todd … bid away! 🙂
After Todd is assembled, he gets the rust-on look and then presumably gets a “wash” to remove the excess … in this case, the dude welding the spray gun went a little nuts and was presumably rejected as requiring too much a wash to get it back to slightly rusted though this could be the variant chase CAR – “Attacked by Ruffian CAR with Kylon Paint plus a chase through an alleyway Todd.”
It’s also missing the front headlamp frame so if if I had to guess, I would guess the REJECT pile that was emptied by an eager employee … into his back pocket … but that’s just a guess so it’s authentic in that it’s not some custom but beyond that, it seems like a RJECTED Todd.
But for fun, you can see Todd as he once was – when he was making his first appearance in a Pixar film … the first of many 🙂
Remember, it’s only an authentic prototype with an original Martin watercolor of McQueen … Now, that you should bid for on eBay!
How about a signature series with tiny watercolor repros? I’d pay $49 for that!
Though for those who care, Todd’s internal code is P3135 and his UPC will be 0-27084-64162-2.
So, wait for Todd, properly painted, with all the pieces attached because with $3.47/$2.97, no skills and a can of brown spray paint, you too can make your own REJECTED TODD in a few months.

He forgot wrecked Hudson Hornet in a sepia toned paint finish with a aged sepia toned newspaper graphic packed out behind him showing the day he crashed. He forgot cause it’s not even sculpted yet. Came up with that one at an offsite brainstorm after seeing the film on a big screen at Disney.

Chase Character is a good idea, but why limit such an awesome car/card to 20k…make 200,000 of them and make Mattel some money…I hear they had to start using 1ply toilet paper instead of 2, cutbakcs and all!!

I can confirm this is true, i just checked the UPC on my UK cars and it this same as Todd’s. Maybe the UK will be getting this first, I sure hope so!
AH Met….here we go again. LOL
0-27084-64162-2 is International UPC for all WOC and ROR singles. Our singles do not have unique numbers. So unless the US is going with a generic UPC like the rest of the world, perhaps it will hit the International Market first…..yeah, right!

So, maybe this is a blonde moment, but I finally figured out why Mater is packaged with the chick pitties. Maybe it has already been discussed? But during the last race sequence he flashes his rearview mirrors at them to blind them. He tells them that he taught Lightning how to drive backwards. Now I have closure!
Do we know if they will be making any of the press vehicles with cameras??

I personally love the little dent in his hood. It is that kind of detail that just really makes him realistic. LOVE IT Martin!
I hope the final released Todd will look more like the SDCC shown version, and less like the eBay version. His truck topper really bothers me on the reject. Its looks swollen or something. Maybe it is the bad painting and photos.. who knows. We will see!
Slightly damaged will still be considered MINT for ol Todd. 🙂
