There is no real news on if there will be a Season 2?

Some have asked based on the rumor that it’s been canceled. But it’s all just a rumor.

A few things to keep in mind.

CARS On the Road is listed as a LIMITED SERIES so in a technical sense (TV lingo wise), it means it’s not like a “regular” series where you’d expect Season 2 to arrive about a year later. Think mini series. If it does well, we might get a second batch (or a sequel).

CARS On the Road was not a monster hit but then it was not really set up that way, they were shorts and they were all released at once and viewership and interest has been pretty steady so that’s good.

Mattel is working its way through the diecasts for the shorts so there’s no real hurry for Disney to produce more.

The original cast will take time to re-assemble so if I had to guess, we might see “season 2” in 2025.

One reason we MIGHT not see a Season 2 is that Disney is weighing the future direction of Disney+, under the last CEO, they thought Disney+ was the future of TV and that by piling in a lot of new shows, the subscriber numbers would cover the cost of launching Disney+ (along with their strategy of bypassing theaters) BUT after the pandemic, things mostly returned to normal – people wanted movies in theaters and would wait to see it on TV … and all the new series was not enough to exponentially increase sub counts … it also didn’t help that every studio other than Sony launched their own streaming service also … and recently, Disney (and other streaming services) have elected to cancel a lot of series to cut costs … or like Disney with Marvel series’, push them back a year or so …

SO, would Disney rather gather up the cast for CARS 4? Versus shorts? Maybe.

So, I’m betting that we will get more CARS with the cast … will it be shorts or a CARS 4? Or maybe shorts in late 2024 or 2025 and a CARS 4 in 2026?

CARS is too valuable to let it lay fallow for long …
