Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Mater Private Eye, Sadly, No Diecasts …
The only Toon without any diecast releases (from Mattel) 🙁
I suppose it’s because they thought it might be weird to release diecasts only in black & white/monochrome? Disney released BIG D in scale and I count it part of the line (the Police Lightning and Mater PI is out of scale, unfortunately).

There is a “Mater Private Eye” diecast set consisting of Mater in hat, McQueen as a policecar and the main bad guy “Big D.” Yes, they are in black and white. The cars were the larger size ones that had been found in the special sets from Disney parks a while ago. Here is a set available now for $125.00.

Man, that’s really disappointing. In my opinion Mater Private Eye was one of the best Toons released!
I found an appropriately scaled trash truck, and mated it to a donor front end from a Miles “Meat Truck” Malone to create my own colorized version of the garbage truck above.
So cool! Would love to see pics!
With Disney+ Channel running for several months now I was expecting Protect & Serve short to finally be out…. I believe there is a great opportunity to revive some existing Toons diecast and there is a ton of possible new ones they can do. For me there is nothing weird buying some “black and white” cars…. what is weird is buying the same exact cars you already have several time just because the background card is different or because the eyelid is slightly different… isn’t it?
Personally I do agree with you. But the compulsion to complete is a difficult one to ignore. I used to be a completionist but I decided that was not the road I wanted to follow. And I’m much happier now.
If they kept numbering them like they did (by the way they did an horrible job doing this… they skipped numbers.) that would be hard to NOT be a completist… then they created sub series with numbers, then sub series with name only and now there is no longer a name to those sub series… just a logo… that way, it is a lot more easy to NOT be a completist. (Hopefully Mattel is not reading this post)
Maybe it’s best Mattel does read this post! Obviously we all are so dedicated were not going to stop collecting over a numbering issue, but it could be good for Mattel to hear from us the things that they could do to make this line even better!
They have also released Time travel Mater and Mcqueen. And they have had only ONE colour: brown.
So black/white is much more colourful 🙂
