The box set is a Walmart exclusive – $16.88 (not listed online yet).

As for the Toon short? Unknown why it hasn’t aired. I have a theory, I’ll see if I’m right in a few months.

You can read the kid’s book if you can’t wait, To Protect & Serve. There’s also a Mater Driving School book, not sure if it’s related to the Toon short or not.

    Ferguson event is 3 year old and we never heard anything about PROTECT AND SERVE short… I guess it is dead, dead, dead… Do they have decided to not do any other shorts? I thought the merchandise was selling really good, in fact they could press the lemon a lot more… So many characters they could do from all previous shorts… TOKYO, EL MATERDOR, UFM, 500 1/2, MOON MATER, HEAVY METAL, PRIVATE EYE have not exploited much… I am sure they would sell fast… But repeating Mater the Greater and Mater Rescue 3 or 4 times was not a great idea…

    I received the drining school book today. That has nothing to do with Protect and Serve story… This one is about Mater and Mcqueen teaching driving lessons to the hot rods (Tuners) after Sheriff stop them for their bad behaviors…

    Theory: The Disney short would appear to revolve around police acting over-zealously and turning minor infractions into big deals. In the socio-political climate post Ferguson/Freddie Gray, such actions could be seen as inflammatory — especially for what is supposed to be a light-hearted kids show.

    (MET: Well, that’s not my theory … :-/ ).
