I think they needed it to look more like a mustache more than anything else. It would look weird the other way, I guess.
Interesting how Pixar inverted the grill design. Grill on real bus appears to widen at the top and Ol’ Jammer’s clearly widens at the bottom. I guess how close they stay to the actual design of any particular vehicle depends upon whether or not they are making a licensed version?
