Solar Winds: Pretty … and a Blast
From a few hundred miles up … the solar wind that sweep past Earth is pretty …
There’s also a short video at NASA’s FLIKR page …
But a few million miles away, it’s a blast and much scarier …

In case you think it’s a gentle breeze, “The solar wind streams off of the Sun in all directions at speeds of about 400 km/s (about 1 million miles per hour.”
That’s the average speed, sometimes it gets to 700 km/s …
Aye Carumba.
You sure you want to go up in space?
So we just got to build a big sail, and we can be to Mars in a few hours?
(MET: They have actually discussed the sail concept for space … though it’s not quite a few hours of travel time …).
Nasa has a Flickr, lol. 🙂
And yet my cell phone still works.
Neat!
