Mattel Disney Pixar CARS 2 Diecast: The “Surfin’ Safari” John Lassetire
As many people noticed, there was an “extra” John Lassetire CAR in the “Rarest CARS” section in the on-going Petersen Museum Exhibit of Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS.
Blu Ray McQueen (You have one week left to redeem according to this post). 🙂
Red Ransburg McQueen (the nearly complete saga here).
& a new addition to the chart – the John “Surfin’ Safari” Lassetire.
Here’s what the plaque reads. And here is the CAR in a close up.
Basically, it was intended as a thank you for “the crew” for working on CARS 2. There is an additional wrinkle in that people who know people who work at Pixar and worked on CARS 2 do not know anything about this. It’s pretty unlikely John Lasseter only handed out a handful of these – more likely, like the Motorama CAR, this might be in your Pixar Christmas goodies bag. 🙂 Hey, we didn’t spoil your stocking stuffer surprise, it’s on display in mid-Wilshire! 🙂
If you go by the credits at the end of CARS 2, we’re talking about a thousand people who worked on CARS 2? Anyone with free time is welcome to give me an exact count of the 7 minute credit roll and does every production baby get one also? That’s another 100 right there. 🙂
Plus extras? So, presuming at some point they actually get handed out, this edition probably will number under 2,000? 1,500? And I’m sure we’ll see non-authorized production ones but most likely without the box … but???
Thanks for the nice pics, Mariela P. & Julia B. Thanks!

THIS should have been the promotional Car that comes with the box set of the Cars 2 DVD.
That would have been very tempting.
