Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS 2: Blue-Purple Finn Again
The secret Blue-Purple Finn McMissile has returned as part of the WM 2-disc DVD Blu Ray pack.
So, thanks to great photos from John H. & Tom D. – we know if Finn again is different or the same.
John H. reports that other than the back “gray-chrome” bumper color being a skoosh different but essentially amounting to nothing …
Front view of D23 Finn, Regular Finn & WM Finn …
Agai, hard to tell in the photo in regards to the back bumper, what do you think if you have both?
Will you feel one is more valuable than another? As the D23 one was probably limited to a few thousand (with Submarine Finn) – 4,000? Or fewer?
Of course, the only difference is the black TOP SECRET envelope …
Production codes? There seems to be no set answer, my D23 one reads 1731 EAA but John’s D23 one is 1441 EAA and his WM Finn is 1891 EAA.
And Tom’s WM Finn is 1641 EAA (earlier than my D23 Finn).
Does yours match any of these?
Do you care?
You can do the math on how many are floating around out there – there are @5,000 WM’s plus Walmart.com and probably Sam’s Club? If each store got @50 of these, we’re talking a cool 250,000 Blue-Purple Finn’s out there. š Fortunately, there are no other Finn’s on the shelves to distract buyers. š
It does say it’s a COLLECTIBLE DIECAST CAR … not an EXCLUSIVE COLLECTIBLE nor LIMITED. š
So, thanks for the great pics, John H. & Tom D.
All your DVD package choices HERE.
On the 1st my walmart had none of these out, but telezon showed 4.
On the 2nd there were 2 on the regular dvd shelf
and a pallet, 2 sides of the pallet had books/coloring books, the other side regular cars movie and 2 pack, the toys r us 3 movie, cars toons, blu ray toons and one other. The last side had 11 cars 2 dvd 5 discs, a number of 2 discs, 7 more of these 2 packs with the car and 9 big sets with the john lassetire.
So I physically saw 9 of these in my walmart and I am proud to say I own one. I can’t open til the 18th but will let you know the code # than.
Speaking of metallic WGP Cars, aren’t we well overdue for another to drop?
(MET: There are no others scheduled as of now).
My Cars 2 Ransburg purchases stopped after the TRU Lightning, per my subjective Collect-Some-Of-All-Of-Them code. But…I couldn’t resist after seeing this in person. It took buying 2 of them to get one without hidden paint blemish though. My son loooooves Finn, and he will treasure this one for sure. Glad Mattel gave me another chance at this, after mistakenly passing up the D23 offering. My Walmart got about 10 of them. The Lassetire box-set was limited to one (one remaining?) on the shelf, and the paintjob was absolutely terrible. I’ll take my chances that KMart really will stock the 2-pack eventually.
No way each Wal-Mart got 50 of these. Mine had maybe 6, but I can’t see them replacing them with many more.
Do we know at what point in the manufacturing process the Cars receive their “born on” date? Maybe they just have a huge bin of chassis that were produced on different dates. The bodies are sent to the top secret off-site underground hardened zamack facility for ransbergification in lots, then assembled back on the main line. That would explain the variation in production dates.
Also, the configuration of the plastic tray that Finn comes in made no sense when it was in the black envelope, but now it is clear the tray was made to fit in the DVD box.
In any event, now my boy can play with him freely as I have no worries about his paint getting chipped, etc.
I guess I’m confused, I thought the D23 exclusive car was submarine finn in collectors box…. And that “purple” finn was just a bonus. Either way I guess no one is ever happy
(MET: Yes, you are correct – the Submarine Finn was the D23 exclusive (packaging with bonus tires) … and the Purple Finn was the Top Secret “bonus”).
I can’t find anywhere in this post where anyone claims the purple Finn is an exclusive.
no one will flat out say it but they sure imply it.
If you say so.
“The guy that I got my D23 Finn from was told that the Ransburg Finn had a print run of under 3000. Iād call that a slight exaggeration of exclusivity.”
Sure says that it was implied that it was exclusive…. What did you mean by that if that wasn’t it? I mean I’m not mad, I am just confused by what you typed. Did you mean exclusivity or was the definition of it what we are really defining?
I just personally think who cares? I got the D23 one because I thought it was cool, NOT because I wanted an exclusive. Besides that exclusivity is in the eye of the beholder, much like value. Just my thoughts, obviously I’m alone on it.
Wait, what? You can talk about the exclusitivity of anything- even something produced in very large numbers. In this context it has a different meaning than what you are implying. All I did was pass along a quote of what a Mattel rep told somebody I know, and point out it’s obvious discrepancy. And I find “Either way I guess no one is ever happy” to be an offensive statement considering that you know nothing about me- much less how I feel about this car, which, as it happens, I absolutely love- no matter how many people own it.
D23 seems to have sloppier paint around the mouth, bumpers, and headlights.
Maybe they were factory seconds, and they found a unique way to get rid of them.
Respectfully disagree.
I have 3 D23 Rans Finns. All are close in quality, but one of the 3 is absolutely outstanding. When opened it I was astonished at the paint. It is as smooth and even as my Speedway of the South Cars. I would add that the paint quality has much improved since the days of the Blu Ray Mcqueen paint. But of course this is double Ransburg. And Blu Ray Mcqueen was not Rans according to Martin Arriola.
D23 Finns I have are not seconds.
The guy that I got my D23 Finn from was told that the Ransburg Finn had a print run of under 3000. I’d call that a slight exaggeration of exclusivity.
I should add that he was told that by the Mattel rep manning the booth.
Well, Mattel also fed Lassetire the misinformation that Lizzie was the first Chase car (during the Super Chase car presentation), so go figure… š
Haha. Good point!
Hmmm I guess one D 23 Seller can now sell this blue/purple Finns out with the D 23 packages.
Do we know why the Walmart packaging depicts the regular Finn? Same with the in-store promo posters. I wasn’t excited about this option until I learned it was the purple Finn, which I didn’t have. Wouldn’t it have been better to promote it as more unique than the usual one that even casual Cars enthusiasts probably already had?
It may just be a production/QC thing, but I notice that both my Walmart Finn and the one in this post have darker pupils (notably to the upper right) than either the D23 or the regular Finn shown in the post. The couple of regular Finns I checked also have the lighter (cleaner?) eye paint. (I don’t have a D23 one.) Also, my Walmart Finn and the one in the post have cleaner teeth paint (tucked inside the sculpted mouth) than either of the others. (My Walmart Finn is coded 1811.)
Kind of a coincidence that the unusually dark pupils and thinner teeth paint are unique to my Walmart Finn as well as the Walmart Finn shown in Met’s post.
The local Walmart had 6 on the shelves… I bought 2… but since it seems to be the same as the D23 one, I’m not going to open one… I bought the 5 disc Combo Pack to open for watching the movie.
Great photos…
