Disney Store Large Scale Lightning McQueen, Mia & Tia: Pre-Order Starts Monday

On September 12, the Limited Edition Die Cast Lightning McQueen with Mia & Tia (SRP: $149.50 USA; $179.50 CAN) will be available for pre-sale in-stores and on DisneyStore.com, for pick up on November 1st!
Here are some details:

1:18 scale die cast
Metal-flake paint finish – just like a real car!
Chrome wheels
Lightning McQueen
Full Die Cast
Working headlights and tail-light
Working suspensions and steering
Removable bottom plate that reveals fully detailed undercarriage
Hinged roof flaps
Limited to: 5000 Sets
Comes with certificate of authenticity
Custom Plexi Display case with a rotating base that lights up – just like a show room
Pre-sale dates: 9/12-10/31
The Chrome Version was only available at the D23 Expo last month – you can see more details of that CAR here – this version, the “regular” release version is the regular Lightning McQueen red.
Of interest, the CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY in the Disney D23 Expo release (the Chrome one) also refers to Mia & Tia but there was no Mia & Tia in that version.

There are some likely explanations for this:
1) They just didn’t have time to complete Mia & Tia.
2) They wanted to make the store set more unique and different – rather than just repeating a non-chrome version.
3) It was not cost effective to a very limited run of chrome silver Lightning AND Mia & Tia.
You can call your local Disney Store to pre-order and reserve on Monday – as soon as the online link is up, I’ll let you know.

ok…so i saw the disney LM/Mia/tia in person…pretty damn hot looking…might have to suck it up and get them…they said i could pre-order up to 3 in the store…hmmmmmm
These will be hot with Miata owners, just like the original Mia and Tia Movie Moments were. The Red Mia and Tias were hard to find on the shelves because of the networking by the Miata club members.
I bought several of the chrome mcqueens. Its great looking and detailed, though definitely not canon, but then again neither are the metallics, tomber sipping oil, up coming silver racers.
I want to see the sample model next Monday, and decide then.
I’m the original owner of a ’90 Miata and yet feel no urge at all to order this set.

wow! $150 Do they flash their headlights at you?
5,000 is a bit ambitious. I am thinking they should have limited them to the 500/1000 range to make them somewhat ‘collectible’. My money is on $50 clearance by next year.
For 150.00 I can’t envision preordering being necessary. I’m guessing there will be a good chance to get this at a deep discount soon enough.
Can’t quite understand why now for this set either. This set seems a few years after it should have been. This looks like a Cars 1 set to me.
I was thinking the same thing — were Mia & Tia seen in this form in “Cars 2”, as seen above?
I do remember seeing Mia & Tia, perhaps in the final Radiator Springs race scene, but just for a split second – can’t remember if they had the new decals or not.
And the correct answer is…
4) They mixed up the Certificates of Authenticity!
I don’t recall a Silver McQueen in “Cars 2”, so maybe this new Disney Store offering will mention Silver McQueen from D23.
No they did not mix up the certificate. It clearly states 1 of 250.

Yeah, but “exact replicas” from the film? Silver McQueen? And D23 Mia & Tia? Definite miscommunication along the lines somewhere.
So could that mean that there’s only going to be 250 of this Disney store version? And maybe the silver wasn’t limited to 250? Maybe it was less, or even more????

wait a minute…this is a different scale than the matty Collector ones? That stinks. Can anyone give me their wheel base measurement on the chrome LM?
D 23 Wheelbase is:
5.5 inches from front center hub to rear center hub
4.5 wide from across the axles front and rear wheels right to left
Mattycollector Lightning Mc Queen is 4 3/16 inches from the front center hub to the rear center hub.
3.5 inches across the axles right to left

I have to agree. If these were the same 1:24-ish scale as the Matty Collector editions, I’d be all over them; but 1:18 is just too big for my collection and for my shelves.
And I thought I would only collect 1:55. Silly me…
only bad thing about these 1:18’s is that the kids don’t get to play with them.
