Not being a serious Cars collector (I get them for my son) I didn’t realize all of the cars that were available for the K-Mart Day 6. Fortunately I happened by a K-Mart this past weekend that had lots of left overs. I passed on the cars he already had but got Sho, Niles, and hydrolic Ramone. He really likes Sho so he is going to be excited about that.
Not sure where else to post this so I hope it gets the attention of others. The Target near me in Tampa, FL started clearancing some select Cars 2 items already! I got the lights and sounds 4-pack for 50% off, and the Lightning/Franceso R/C 2-pack for 30% off. They also had most of the mini-track sets for 30% off. The summer toy reset is scheduled for July 31 so they must be making room for that. Check your Targets!
Which Target in Tampa? I live in Pinellas but go to Tampa often.
South Tampa on Gandy Blvd is where I found the stuff I listed. I haven’t checked any other stores yet.
Thanks. I don’t get that far south often, but I’ll be sure to check it out soon.
I missed the event and went into two different Kmarts and was not able to locate any of them. I just wanted to get Rubber tires McQueen, King and Hicks.
Maybe I will uy the case and return the leftovers.

Odds are you need to have them check the stockroom — that is where all of our store’s extras went.
At my store there were eight cases, three collectors. The assistant manager gave out three and kept the remainder sealed. Hopefully K-Mart sent them to Toys For Tots, where they belong.
To the contrary, Jack, “buying” Cars took off after the weekend the movie came out. The stand alone displays in my local stores had minimal sales UNTIL the movie came out. The displays were rapidly depleted. Why? Because parents took the kid to the movies and enjoyed the sweetness of the characters. There was character development. There was the development of the relationship between McQueen and Sally. There was the lead up to the “Big Race.” Parents bought Cars, The Original for their kids.
The story line/plot of Cars Two is loaded with the day to day garbage adults endure. Big Oil! Violence! Do I need to go to a movie for that? Cars Two was produced to sell merchandise. That’s obvious from the amount of pre-release displays in the stores with the multitude castings. Cars, The Original was produced to entertain. Selling Cars castings was an unexpected bonus.
After collecting Cars, The Original I have no desire to buy any of the Cars Two castings with the exception of Sarge.
why Sarge?
On most of the Supercharged cards, Sarge was recalled nearly 4 years ago, and with the exception of Lenticulars and the Chase piece “Saluting Sarge”, he has never been released as a single since.
Former combat infantryman has love and affection for jeeps (and assault helicopters).
I have Sarge on every card he ever appeared on. I never sent back a recalled Sarge! I’m not prone to suck on my toys anymore! Neither were the kids who I gave them to before the recall.
Roger that sir. He was my first Avatar on this site and is still my current Avatar on two other Cars sites.
Steve,
I do as well. Sarge on every card released.
Lenticular, Pit Crew, Saluting, Original, SC, Shopkeepers Boot Camp. Movie Moments with Fillmore.
I salute you.
I have a lead-painted Sarge in my case at work. I joke he’s my most dangerous display piece.
That figures
Over 40 cases at the event… a week later all the Ramones were gone.
I was the only collector at my store.
My store had plenty of leftovers also. People are not interested. A lot of people are not really into the second series at all compared to Cars 1.
Well in fairness Cars 1 collecting really caught on after the DVD was released and parents saw there children wanting to watch the movie over and over.
However I don’t believe Cars 2 cars collecting will ever reach the heights Cars 1 did. Just not enough racers or character development. Plus with all the violence, terroism, explosions etc. There will be a certain amount of parents that won’t even buy the movie for their home.
I just can’t believe how disappointing the movie was. Pixar had it so set up to make a great movie but totally dropped the ball. I just don’t know what they were thinking.
Unless the make some TV shorts or something the line is going to sink within in a year or two.
I completely agree with you Jack. Sadly, the last days of this line will be the collectors who joined the original party late and who will desperately try in vain to keep the line alive so they can try to recreate the feeling that we felt years ago.
In addition to there being no heart whatsoever in the new movie, Mattel has cheapened the toys with not only way too much plastic content, but the eye plates look cheap as well. I hesitate to call them Lenticular 3.0, but they’re close! I am waiting for the first discovery of a no-eyes, see-through-the-windshield Car, when one of those eye plates pop off during production.
I agree. I enjoyed Cars 1 much better than Cars 2.
Time will tell I guess. I don’t expect Cars 2 to do better than Cars 1, but I didn’t think it was a disappointment. I liked it. My 4 year old certainly loved it and I think that is what matters the most.
Thses cars will be around a long time at many stores. Just not a good enough assortment. Most collectors knew even before the event took place. No new cars = not enough people to buy repeats.
Wonder how many more they’ll sell… the 4 stores I’ve been to since they event all had plenty of leftover stock.
