Yes, this is a bit too ‘morbid’ for Mattel.
When I saw it before reading the titles my first thought was, ‘are they nuts?’ Naturally, you release the character in their original iteration before you get to variants.
I want two. One to open and put in my Star Trek collection.
I just got back from the Cars 2 movie tonight, so this now makes sense.
Can’t believe how many ‘deaths’ there were in a Cars movie.
That’s what has stuck with me over the last week more than anything else…the movie’s “perversity.” Seeing Rod tortured, ultimately to death, giving away (even if unwittingly) Mater’s identity despite his heroic buildup, plus the casual display of Leland’s mangled corpse, is unnerving to those of us who have come to see cars as “people” characters. Other little things too…notably the emergence of a sexy female character from the shadows of a French stall, who essentially propositions Mater and reveals herself to be “different,” adds an element of…dare I say, fetishism? It’s the movie’s best gag to those of us interested by the age-old “headlights vs. windshield” debate regarding cartoon-car eyes, but to make her a sexy female who approaches Mater is really something. I think that’s what I was channeling here…the lingering strangeness I’m left with, though not at all disapprovingly.
I’m still stuck on the deaths of Rod and Leland. I heard originally, the bad guys’ 2nd in command was going to be Zil, a Russian car, but they scrapped him in favor of Proffesor Z. There was even going to be a scene showing them crush a British car trying to get answers from him. I really think the deaths of those 2 cars were unnecessary, but, like most if not all other Pixar deaths, it is never shown.
When you understand that all “entertainment” includes certain agendas being pushed by the powerful people at the top then things like death in a children’s movie will not surprise you.
That’s cool, DDD. Thanks for sharing. If Mattel were to make this it would come in a 40 pack with 10 LMQs, 10 FMMs and 9 Maters.

Hey, ya never know. Mattel put out Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet (which was actually just an empty package), so I would not put this one past them to produce. Let’s start a petition!

I think single #26 may be either Leland Turbo, Mel Dorado, David Hobbscap, Chauncey Fares, or Prince Wheeliam, but Leland Turbo (Not compacted), I’d say has the best chance. I actually believed this until you said it wasn’t real. That was awesome work. Happy July Fools Day.
