Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS 2: Professor Z Paint – The Final Chapter
Okay, we can take Professor Z off the variant list – at least when it comes to the mysterious “door handle,” on his face.
“DDD” who owns this unique Z was kind enough to snap two final pics that puts the mystery in a better light …
It does look like the painter guy meant to triangle-brush stroke the back and instead did the front and apparently only allowed ONE gray brushstroke a CAR then passed it along.
So, “DDD” owns the only Professor Z with a door handle on the front and an unpainted back. Not a variant but an error.
As NO ONE else has reported finding a similar CAR.
However, there are definitely some Professor Z’s with a clear monocle and others with a hazy one -it seems the hazy ones are all older production ones?
So, thanks for looking everyone and thanks for the fun mystery, “DDD.”

For some reason Professor Z just makes me smile every time I see him. I hope he’s not too evil in the movie, because he looks hilarious!
Yeah, one brush-stroke per car, or you get sent to re-education. They weigh your paint jars before and after each shift.
I guess he did a 180 that time. Congrats on the 1 of a kind error DDD. But, the one with Tyler Trunklis had a different mouth, so it’s still a variant.
Thanks! Maybe he’s worth something, or will be…oddly enough, it’s more of an annoyance to me…I was frustrated when I discovered it, but at least he’s not too expensive to get a “good” one too (the correct one I had went to my nephew). I’m excited about the variant with Tyler…great expression!
During the upcoming Fall semester, someone will write their Graduate Thesis on this topic.
I plan on doing my 9th Grade assessment on it this winter.
Just proves the goofy car really is hard to tell the front from the back. Particularly if that grey brush stroke happens before eyes are painted and the monocle is applied… 🙂
