Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Sarge – What Won’t Kill You Will Pay You
Most people just returned their Sarge back in ought ’07 when he was leaden with lead and got a refund from Mattel but apparently you could also join in a class action lawsuit – the modern day stoning – only with lawyers … Mattel folded after 4 years of lawyering …
$175 – not bad … usually I get a voucher to redeem for a pack of gum. (I missed this money grabbing opportunity – guess my mind went blank from all the lead in my system – it is a mystery why my blood lead is so elevated ..).
(I think this might be the actual correct usage of the word IRONY or is it double IRONY since I have lead in me and not iron).
I do not know if you can still get in on it or you missed the one time Mattel buys you a round … a case of CARS or two.
Somethings tells me that “Mr. LCC-20” will be indirectly feed this back to Mattel via Target, WM & TRU. 🙂
So, settling this lawsuit proves the old adage, ‘this doesn’t cost money, this makes us money indirectly.’
Who else scored money? Money, money, money.

There seems to be confusion about this recall. If you submitted a claim in late 2007, Mattel sent you a voucher with which to purchase other Mattel products. Since then, a class action lawsuit was filed, and if Mattel had your name & address, they sent you an opt-in postcard. THAT is what generated these checks, NOT the claim you filed in 2007.
I returned one Sarge and got a check for $10. Now if I just had somewhere to shop for Cars.
Now we all know why Mattell raised the prices, so the lawyers could get paid.
I got $10 from returning 2 Thomas the Tank Engine trains involved in the same recall…
I still have my three, stored somewhere with the other desert back classics. I did open one to display on my desk at work. I wonder if that’s the reason I replace a hard drive every quarter and why I have this scratchy sound in my wireless headset?
(MET: You might have the Bikini Island radioactive Sarge … it’s a rare chase but cursed. 😛 ).
If your Sarge’s are Desert Art cards, then you are safe. The recall only involved most Sarge’s on Supercharged cards.
Do you think all the radiation from the H-Bomb tests led to all the strange lifeforms that live on Bikini Bottom?
Funny how these checks are being sent out now, right before all the Cars 2 stuff goes on sale.

I got a $10 check. I returned two Sarges and kept two; they’re packed away somewhere. I don’t remember where. That must be the effects of the lead. I did get two vouchers from them and used them to get two more CARS. I don’t remember what two CARS I got. *$#* that lead.
Wonder how many millions the lawyers made off of this lawsuit.

“Deadline to file a claim May 29, 2010” How could you have missed this Met? We rely on you to keep us up to date on all things Mattel/Cars. 😀 I would have traded my Sarge for $175.00 in a heartbeat!
I see this $175.00 must have been for multiple Sarges……never mind.
Edit: 5.00 per Sarge according to others who got checks for 10.00 for 2 Sarges.
So what does $17.50 mean? 😉
This $175.00 check might also include other leaded Mattel toys, as they didn’t recall only Sarge.
Sheesh, and I thought my check for $17.50 was a lot!
Never returned mine. Still have 3. I heard they sent 7.00 per Sarge.
Must have been a lot of Sarges to get 175.
As I recall, the payout back then was $8.00 per Sarge. This settlement was for a lot less though, as I returned 6 in the recall.
