Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS 2: Lights & Sounds First Wave + YouTube Videos Demos
Joining the party will be Lights & Sounds 1:55 scale* versions of most-many of the main characters.
And surprisingly, the design & execution turned out very nice.
You press a button – that activates the lights and they begin speaking and surprisingly, they actually speak a lot of phrases – up to 10? Or just a hair under but pretty impressive – I thought for the price & scale, it would be something meager but 7-10 is very nice … and if you hold the button down, the lights stay on so if you need a teeny tiny wattage light source or a very nice looking but feeble flashlight, there ya go … 🙂
AND also ALL voiced by the original US film version actors** – as far as I can tell.
The first wave pretty much consists of who you think it might be … (some are photos of the regular mainline singles – no lights & sounds but they look essentially the same – yes, mostly all metal diecast or at least whatever the regular release is composed of).
Finn McMissile – d’uh.
Holley Shiftwell (Holley I believe is actually in CASE B)
Lightning & of course, Mater.
You’ll notice that Mater is smiling wider as the STAR of the film – he now has three teeth visible.
*They all are essentially the 1:55 versions except with lights & sounds except for Francesco Bernoulli which is somewhat-quite a bit larger – more like 1:50 scale …
I presume because Francesco is a low profile CAR, it was just too hard to hide the lights & sounds components? So, Francesco is larger as a lights & sound CAR.
The main difference is the bottom.
As you can see, not riveted but screws. The battery compartment holds three flat “watch” batteries so you can do your own replacements and since the base is screwed on, I’m sure we’ll see some wacky mods down the line. 🙂
And as promised, a brief demo video of some of the CARS. Each CAR is activated in a different area … there are at least two Mater’s – this is the first release. You can hear some of his dialogue and his lights – the end of the video is with the light source turned off … mater, he funny.
This one is Mater with missiles in the back (they do not fire nor light up) but it’s Mater in spy character.
Holley is activated by pressing down on the back window.
And Francesco is activated by pressing down on his helmeted head. 🙂
You can access them all here at the TakeFive YouTube page.
So, all and all, very nicely down – at first, I figured it was a quick gimmick but it seems likely done – all original voices and each character has lots of lines and the lights are nicely done – not just repeats but make sense for each type of CAR.
The retail price will most likely be @$9.99.
No UPC yet but the DPCI at Target is: 087-07-1970
There will also be some 1:24 lights & sounds CARS but they seem to be all plastic and more typical of the larger scale play items for younger kids – and limited to Mater, Finn & McQueen.
** If you live in a country with a dubbed release of the film, if you get these released, it will feature the US actors voices.
Thanks “Red Vested Ninja” for your help on the lights & sounds CARS.
I just saw a Finn McMissle Lights & Sound with guns! He’s the spy version. Didn’t know that he was coming out, are there going to be more?
(MET: There are a bunch more – I’ll update the list soon).
looks really nice, I already have most of them 🙂
no cars 2 here, no finish to cars 1 and no haulers in at least a year
Found the Deluxe Wave in Wisconsin!!! W00T
Nice score!! Was it also at Hobbytown USA … they seem to big the big leak. 😆
The 2 local diecast toy stores near me have already put out their Cars 2 stuff but not these yet. Can’t wait to see them!
Something else to re run the whole line and waste materials on. Just finish the first movie
Exactly. Kinda what they did with lenticulars, and now this with sounds. Even though I don’t mind this, but really want all the Cars 1 cars to be finish!
Now this is what should have been done instead of the lenticulars in the first place! There have been like-size lights and sound Thomas engines for some time now, so I knew this would be possible; glad to see Mattel picking up the ball and running with it!
I want these!
Take5 is such a great site… entered “Cars 2 lights sounds” into Google, got this Toy Fair video with a lot of interesting tidbits about the upcoming Cars: Toy Fair 2011 Cars coverage
There will be 54 characters released in 2011, 14 at launch, then 2/month
(By my calculation that’s only 28 cars?)
There will also be two packs, oversized and the lights and sounds variations.
Cars toys go on sale May 16.
Cars 2 DVD goes on sale in early November.
-John
(MET: The count does not include 2-packs, box sets, etc … etc … we’ll probably have about 60 releases at launch … updated DVD news coming).
excellent stuff, how do we get the jacket!
I have these and they rock!
Our WM has their new plan-o-grams hanging up…..the space is already set aside for these Lights and Sound Cars.
Another good sign….they show the same space as before for MTT singles and Deluxe!
I am undecided about collecting these… they appear to be neat, but with as many things as there coming out, I can’t afford to collect them all.
Especially once the battery goes dead and/or it stops working completely.
They most likely use those little circular watch batteries that cost just as much as the car.
Easy to get button batteries very cheaply in bulk on Ebay and Amazon.
wait, then if the batteries come in each car, thatll be a great deal.
Also, i was a little confused, The Light and Sound Cars are METAL!? pinch me…
(MET: yes, the come with three batteries – eventually you will have to replace them so the little tab on the bottom – they are metal in all the areas that are metal for the “regular” diecasts so some more than others but yes, they are considered metal diecasts).
Had a “wooden” Talking Thomas (mostly plastic). It talked for about four days and my son loved it. Had to replace the 3 button batteries and then it worked for about a day and a half before those batteries died too. After that, we used our imaginations and his wooden railway is just as fun. I think we will stick to the non-sounds versions.
Most toys like this use 2 or 3 AG13 button batteries. If you have access to a Dollar Tree store, they often sell a card of 8 or 10 for, you guessed it, a dollar! The stores here in California stock Sunbeam (like the small appliance company) brand. Other “Dollar” stores might also carry them.
i,ll give these a miss ,thankyou very much
Finn is Michael Caine’s voice. He says 6 phrases. I got one yesterday.
12.99 at Hobby Town.
mine was only 9.99 at hobby town lol
How do you guys have these already?
I HAVE HAD THESE IN HAND FOR A WHILE THEY ARE NICE
I wonder if the basic 1:55 vehicles will be made with screws as well? That would make for a Customizer’s dream!
ok this takes the cake!!! Much more interested in these guys for the main line non?!?!
Just add some lenties to their face and we have a deal!!! Lights! Sounds! Moving eyes!!! Just like the real deal!!!
…Only really really small!!!!!!
Lights and Sounds is the new Lenticular!
But way better don’t you think? It would be nice to revisit some of the C1 cars like the Tunerz!
Canada probably won’t get these because of the language requirements.
We have nothing yet in Cars 2 and I already foresee collecting them all an issue.
ummm…I like the packaging
