Disney Pixar CARS 2: John Lasseter Talks About Doc Hudson-Paul Newman Tribute
Owen Wilson (voice of Lightning) mentioned there would be a nice tribute to Doc/Paul Newman in the film, John Lasseter has finally said something official in yesterday’s LA Times.
John Lasseter, the Pixar chief creative officer and director of the movie, said that the studio debated incorporating the Doc Hudson character into the June 24 release but decided the best way to honor Newman would be to leave him out. “We have a lovely tribute to Paul in the movie,” Lasseter told 24 Frames at the Oscars on Sunday. “But we didn’t feel it would be right to include him or the character.”
Lasseter didn’t say how the film, which takes Lighting McQueen and Mater on an espionage adventure through the streets of Tokyo, would deal with the absence of Doc Hudson.

So, will Doc appear in a memory flashback? A musical montage without dialogue? Or something really meta like Lightning looking at a diecast of Wrecked Hudson Hornet.

What a political agenda.
They were obviously so worried about their political message, they didn’t realize they were making a terrible movie.
I’m all for new energies, but why turn it into good vs. evil and pit people against each other.
Rich people aren’t evil, people who own oil companies or work for them aren’t evil.
We don’t need a one world press, government, army, or taco stand
My bet is they do a montage of McQueen watchin’ old tapes of Doc in his Piston Cup days tearin’ up the track… you know – Learnin’ from the master – Tryin’ to mimic his moves and so on…
So sad. They made a good choice. thats one reason he wasnt in cars toons, another mystry solved. so doc… is dead R.I.P.
Anyone know who’s voicing Filmore since George Carlin has passed away as well?
I would guess they chose to use already-recorded sound bytes from the man himself?
“Fillmore is set to reappear in the second film. His voice actor will be Lloyd Sherr, replacing the deceased George Carlin.”

I love that guy!! He’s the narrator for “Modern Marvels” on The History Channel.
I was kinda hoping Tommy Chong would take over Filmore. It would of been fun to have a little dialogue between Ramone (Cheech)and Filmore (Chong). A little inside joke for us old farts.
Maybe they are doing a Wrecked Fabulous Hudson Hornet as part of the Cars 2 diecast line ???
That would be rather gruesome.
I think we won’t see the wrecked FHH released. It was a nice idea in the beginning, but not any longer.
We’ll find out on June 24… June 23rd if friends in Australia tell us before we see the movie…
Could it be a scene showing the new graphics being applied to Lightning’s hood, by Ramone, showing Doc and the 3 Piston Cups?
Something along those lines is my guess. A nice classy tribute.
