Disney Pixar CARS: Dale Earnhardt?
John in MO asks …
“Marking 10 years since his death, AOL has a pictoral history of Dale Earnhardt’s life. When I saw this picture, I couldn’t help but wonder if Pixar made Mater’s missing headlight in honor of Dale?”
Approximately 4:30 pm eastern time, ten years ago today. We lost Dale Sr.
Lets give a moment of pause.
“We miss you sir”
If Mater’s missing headlight is a tribute to Sr., then it’s a tribute to ever driver from that time period as all cars were like. It’s called a cooling duct.
Just read an article in the paper – Sounds like Nascar is not quite the same as the GOOD OL’ DAYS of only a decade ago…
Safer i am sure but the legend brought guts and grit to the sport which will never be seen again…
Bless him for his drive and the son he left behind for us…
So true…Look at what happened to Denny Hamlin on the last lap Saturday night. Used to be that was just good racin. 😉
Dale Jr. on the Daytona 500 pole. 🙂 Jeff Gordan 2nd.
I always assumed Chick Hicks was most like him…
Everyone knows he was was called the intimidator…similar to the rough driving style of Chick…besides…Chick’s moustache is very very similar to No. 3…
Also, I always saw it as a 3 generation race…The King, the indimidator, and the rainbow warrior Jeff Gordon…there was only one race (that i can find) where Petty, Gordon and No. 3 raced…it was the only race in 1992 that Gordon drove…his first full year was 1993…petty’s last race was 1992.
I always thought Chick Hicks was the Terry Labonte.

LOL…Terry was always the nicest guy on the track, from what I can remeber…the looks fit, personality..not so much…even Dale jarret sported that thick burly moustache…I miss the kellogs/cornflakes car…
It also matches a Maisto transport with a #3 car that has a closer paint scheme 80’s Wrangler Monte Carlo.
That’s in the stores right now, right? I think it’s a generic version of Earnhardt’s car. Maisto also has a light blue #11 car that seems a lot like Mario Andretti’s car and/or paint scheme from the 60’s.
Very interesting… not only the missing headlight, but also Gasprin does look like the old Wrangler car in the photo in the link…
I always wondered if Gasprin was a tribute to Dale Seniors old Wrangler car. There is a picture of it here..http://jimcinsc.blogspot.com/2009/01/some-pictures-for-you.html
I think so too. It’s a pretty strong resemblance.
Good theory, maybe they did
Nope. That’s just a coincidence.
