San Diego To Get 12 Walmarts in Next Few Years
“Last week, Walmart announced plans to build 12 stores in San Diego over the next five years, creating 1,100 permanent jobs and 300 construction jobs. It said the new stores would help communities that are underserved by grocers.
The Bentonville, Ark.-based company welcomed San Diego’s change of heart Tuesday. Walmart currently has four stores – and no Supercenters – in San Diego.”

Walmart products are the same products that everybody else sells and gets from China or wherever. Calgill Internation is the processor of ALL canned foods and much of our produce found in every single food store. So if you are worried, go to a farm and get your food. As for other products, tell us which other stores have no Chinese products. So Microsoft, Walmart, IBM, google, etc need to take a back seat because they are large and offer more goods and services at cheaper rates and that is bad for the economy? Wow! Who taught you economics??????
Do you work for Wamart? It took this long for Walmart to get someone to write something in their defense?
I hope With all of Walmarts resources and money that this is not the best defense of their business practices that it can offer. That others do it too so why shouldn’t we.
All of the big global corporations you mention aren’t good for our economy. IBM please. If only people really knew their history or what they are working on now, but that’s ok. I know and So do some others.
You can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of us all the time, Not yet. It will take a few more generations before no one can think for themselves anymore as Betrand Russell and others have claimed will happen.
Also the formal rules for intelligent debate dictate the name caller is automatically disqualified due to unintelligent and empty rebuttal. To insult the messenger is a very old and simple technique. Please if you have an Intelligent point of view with actual facts or pertinent information by all means contribute. However I find it quite a bore to read such uniforming posts just for the sake of disagreeing with my factual and true viewpoints.
Yes Walmarts are bad for the economy. So are many of the big corporations. Especially all of the corporations that sold out America and eliminated millions of factory jobs.
Perhaps you can explain why for over 50 years we had to spend billions on weapons and war because communism was so bad that it was a threat to our freedom. They had us hiding under desks when I was a child in school because those evil communist might bomb us at anytime.
Now we have the olympics in and buy all our goods from China, a communist country. We have been being played for fools for quite sometime. You will know the answers to these kind of questions if you are ever able to see the bigger picture. Not the conditioned view of the world the corporate owned media, entertainment and UN run school systems ingrained in you. America and the middle class were much stronger when you had many family owned small businesses. It’s pretty simple. It’s better for more people to be making good money in small stores than a few on top getting even more filthy rich while the workers make peanuts.
That’s fine if you like WalMarts. That the small picture tells you you saved a few dollars but there is much more to life than this small picture.
In case you haven’t noticed as big corporations have gained in market share and power our economy gets worse and worse.
The middle class is shrinking and the disparity between rich and regular people is increasing. None of this is happening by accident. The wealthy and powerful corporate owners and shareholders are the ones making things go the way they are.
That’s exactly what’s ruining the economy. The rich get rich and the poor get poorer. More jobs making less money and less jobs making good money.
As I always say if only people knew the truth.
As for the organic foods you are absolutely right about not knowing how companies are treating their crops. However I know I don’t want to eat food that they are admitting to spraying with herbicides and pesticides.
Most people just have no idea of how bad some of the foods are for us nowadays but again that’s what happens when the billionaire bankers and corporate shareholders own everything including the media. You only get told what the very powerful want you to know. You ever notice how the big food companies never do anything wrong ever? You would almost think that the handpicked FDA board goes to work for these rich corporation owners after they serve their time. Oh that’s right they do but definitely not a conflict of interest there. I’m sure they would turn down great jobs in the private sector and tell us the truth instead.
Thats ok. Maybe your children can get a job at Walmart one day when those are the only jobs left in America. Then you can tell me how it was a better for the economy as opposed to them owning their own store, Before the big corporations made that impossible.
Just keep sitting in front of your made in China TV, eating GMO snacks and believe what they are telling you. Soon we will all see where that’s going to get us.
Contrary to popular belief, Wal-Mart is NOT necessarily the cheapest store in town. I get around to four Wal-Marts in Pierce County, WA and each store has its own pricing. There are two Wal-Marts on Meridian Avenue, Pierce County, WA within five miles apart and the prices for the same exact item will vary by as much as 50%. Prices are lower where there is competition. People make the assumption WM is cheaper on all items all the time. NOT so! You cite food stuffs as an example. In our locale Fred Meyer consistently rotates the sales items, so any person running a household knows when the next sale will occur and buy accordingly. Fred Meyer runs coupon (% off sales) in all their departments. I can attest the prices at Wal-Mart in Chehalis, WA are more expensive than Spanaway, WA because there is zero competition is Cheahlis, WA.
Some stores will price match, but, that requires the shopper be astute and exercise that right.
As far as every store having the same quality or lack of quality in the case of Wal-Mart, there are always alternatives. Cheap is cheap! You get what you pay for. Here’s some examples:
I always buy Dutch Boy latex paint. I was perplex when I noticed the color chips in W/M display did NOT match up with the competition’s display. I called the factory rep to obtain the color mix. Dutch Box told me I needed to go to Fred Myer or K-Mart in my area, because W/M’s Dutch Boy latex paint is inferior in quality. He said the paint is watered down-more water less pigment. No noticeable immediate effect upon application, but, less durability, etc. He said the only way to get a W/M contract/price structure was to reduce the pigment.
I bought a pole lamp at W/M because of the style. Upon taking it out of the box, I noticed the metal burnishing/coating was not evenly applied. When I returned it to W/M the returns clerk did not even ask me specifically what was wrong with the product. She made out the reason without asking. She said all of them are returned. Where is quality control? We found a similar style lamp at a competitive price that was made in USA.
Basically, in order to get a product into W/M the company needs to meet certain pricing structure. In order to meet that structure there is usually a reduction in quality, a reduction in ounces per unit.
And, I am more than willing to take my business to a store that pays decent wages and benefits to their employees. Remember, all of you who complain about taxes, the cost of low wages is increased subsidies from the government for child care, medicaid, earned income tax credit, subsidized housing. Take a look at any federal income tax instruction book and look at the earned income tax credit available to workers with children earning minimum wage. Nothing in life is free.

PS: Since this is a Cars toy site, I pay less for my Cars at Fred Meyer than any store in town. The MSRP is always reduced by at least 10% and with another 10% off if over 55 once per month. Many B1G1 free or B2G1 free many times. Stick it up your exhaust pipe Wal-Mart.
WoW! to say that Walmart is bad for the economy is just plain stupid. I just moved to San Diego from Texas. There is a walmart almost every 7 miles and trust, the local stores get plenty of business. Why they don’t have Aldi’s here is beyond my comprehension. Walmart is good competition to drive prices lower at other stores. That is good for the economy. People want to believe they are so sure about the products they get from “organic” stores. I will tell you straight up that they cannot guarantee they are not sprayed with chemicals. Fact is if you are so concerned about that, then go to the farms and check them out. Walmart is providing great competition in our economy and the fact they may have lower prices if not a bad thing. Frankly I would be buying my food from Aldi’s but there are none here. I buy from Walmart because the other stores are gouging everyone on high rediculous food prices. I hope they build 100 more Walmarts in the San Diego area.
I know many people just look at the smaller picture of saving a few bucks on purchases but in a big picture view Wal Marts are not good for our economy.
Without getting to much into it, it is actually better for the economy to have many independently owned businesses selling many locally made products with many families making good money, rather than huge corporations selling imported goods with the very wealthy making most of the money.
There has been a long time battle against letting Wal Marts into NYC. There was a public hearing on this just yesterday here in NYC.
WalMarts will soon be here I am sure. The huge corporations always win nowadays.
As for the cheaper groceries; I prefer to pay more to buy natural organic foods. Before deciding Wal Marts cheaper foods are a good thing, I strongly urge everyone to simply read the labels on anything you put in or on your body first.

The genetically modified crops used in all the big AGRA food companies products are not items that are providing the type of nourishment we need. Not too mention the negative effects related to many GMO foods. Just check into to the GMO based corn and soy foods for more information.
In studies that lab rats were given a GMO food based diet the results were very bad.
Believe it or not the big AGRA food companies grow crops that have been modified to withstand weed killer like Round-up.
I don’t care if they say it’s safe. I don’t want to eat crops from fields sprayed with Round-up. No matter how cheap they are selling it. Interesting too that the workers in the biggest bioengineering companies cafeteria refused to eat there own products and insisted the cafeteria stock organic foods.
The cancer rate is sky rocketed for reasons they say they can’t figure out but they do tell you- you are what you eat. So good eating sounds good to me.
The BPH/A found in most plastics, lotions, foods, food containers and so many other products that Wal Marts carry we could do without also. Natural glass is also good for me.
Please everyone do whatever you please. I have nothing to gain here. I do care about people though so I just like to pass on information that others may find helpful.
At the very least it is always a great idea though to look into things for yourself and draw your own conclusions.
When we let others make decisions for us and tell us what to think; they usually take advantage and use it for their own benefit. Not for ours.
Yes Wal Marts are convenient and sell cheap goods but are they really the type of made in China products and food stuffs that are good for the country and our health? The answer will be obvious to anyone who reads the labels and looks into the chemicals added for themselves.
Could be good, current Cars selection at WalMarts in SD is pretty worthless.
I grew up in Santa Barbara and there are STILL no Targets or WalMarts there, heck there isn’t even a Costco there. You have to drive to Goleta for Costco, Ventura for Target and Oxnard for WalMart. That said, all those are within 30 mins of one another.
More Walmart stores… I guess not every county has them… My parents lived in Santa Barbara for years and they did not have a Target store.
