Disney Pixar CARS: Would You Buy Wood CARS if You Could, Should, Would Buy Wood CARS?
Would I do a post (of words and not wood) of wooden CARS?
Should I splinter off part of my day?
Shiver me timbers, I guess I should lumber in from the woods and branch out – to really see the forest from the trees …
Many of you have been pining that I get to the root of the matter, and knot to be a sap about it.
Alright – enough beating around the bush …
I tried to go against the grain but poplar opinion was too tough of a nut to crack – so I whithered into kindling and decided to …**
Apparently TRU was offered a good deal on wood and they decided what better thing to do with them but to turn forests into CARS.
And I gotta say they decided on the theorem – go big or not at all.
So, not from Mattel but a private label TRU Wood CARS … here’s your WAVE 1*** visual checklist …
McQueen only available with Mack.
Mater with Fabulous Hudson Hornet.
Of course, the competitor boys …
And the townies …
Radiator Springs LM with Sally.
Doc Hudson & (Not Willie Butte’s Dirt Track but) Dusty Lightning McQueen.
And of course, what’s a series without playsets?!
And I have to admit, the Mater Tow yard is not very canon but petty darn cute …
Guessing from the notches in the wood base, they link up with the Thomas “scale?”
Any Thomas collectors out there?
They look nice enough – they don’t excite me too much but I’m presuming they are the same “gauge” as the Thomas wooden series so if you are a collector of those, CARS can visit the isle of Sodor – though Sir Topham Hatt is still freaky. 🙂
So, in case you have the room, COLLECT THEM ALL!
*** If you buy ’em all up, I’m sure there will be a wave 2. 🙂
Since you’re clearly missing Guido, Sheriff, Lizzie, Snot Rod, DJ, Sheriff and Big Al.
Of course, does this mean there will be TEAK CHASE CARS?
Is that an exotic wood?
Since they have that ginormous Thomas playtable – Wooden Motor Speedway of the South!
** I think I’m out of wood puns …
I do not know if i can post here but does anyone happen to have the luigi’s tire set (i dont mind if its used) for sale? We bought the set for my son and luigi’s part is the only one i can not find anywhere 🙁 Any help would be greatly appreciated!
(MET: If you post it in our forum, it’s much more likely to be seen).
I like the sets, and yes they do interlock with your average train sets. I do think all the wooden cars are way over priced (as is Thomas), but the normal diecast cars do fit on the tracks. The ones from the Disney Store and some of the Toon cars are too big (Monster trucks, Ambulance, etc.). I can give a rip about the cars but I hope they complete Radiator Springs!
Have seen most of these, but not the playsets or the Mack/McQueen. Will have to get the Mack/McQueen when I see him.
My 8yo and 10yo wood love these, because it would get the 2yo to quit playing with their diecasts.
Great piece of writing in the above article ! In style, it reminds me of a comic record about 25 years ago (subtitled “The Fish Song”). Some of you may recall it.
I was raised with many admonitions, one of those being “Don’t take any wooden nickels”. I’ll extend that to Cars and pass on the “woodies”.

I think I will hold out for the J E L L – O version
Nope… I’ll wait for the Lenticular Wood series 🙁 JK… seriously… no… Is anybody going to for wait for the wood iCar?
Okay, CARS for babies, I guess. OKay made in China…hmmm…some one please check the lead and cadmium levels PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll betcha they are so expensive because of the licensing rights…
a whole new line and an exclusive… C’mon, Disney is wiping themselves with all that cash.
This just feels like they are trying to milk the obsessive collectors to re-buy everything they already bought in the 1:55 scale, the Disney Store stuff, and the mini adventures. Enough already.
“Bring them on”! I have a ga-zillion wooden Thomas and Friend’s trains from my boy’s earlier years. So you lose a little paint here and there, sort of like the cars swapping paint. The Thomas items are first class. I do like the idea of a table. I think the little minds pushing the vehicles around might enjoy a layout of Radiator Springs instead of a speedway. Oh yes, you gotta purchase each town piece separate to build the town piece by piece. Sounds like an opportunity for someone!
The only one i like and WOOD 🙂 buy if the price was right, is the Mater Play Set. Nothing else
They look okay. They’re great but they look like an easy pass. I’m going with the die-cast ones.
As much as I hate Mattel, I’m stickin with them.
WHAT??? No Mia and Tia??
chick lost his stickers!
They are “OAK”-ay but not for me thanks. I think the price must be “CHIP”-er. This CARS collection is alraedy enough “PINE”-full to our wallet… I’m still trying to swallow the $30 new Christmas set…Really $10 for “TREE” new CARS is quite too much… “WOODEN” be a bad idea to wait the Christmas liquidation early 2011… Must go decorate my Christmas “TREE” now… 🙂
unless you’ve got a really little one that can’t play with the diecasts yet…I don’t really see the point.
I saw these at TRU…the Mater and Tex sets, which I also think are the most appealing, plus the Mater playset. (MIGHT pick up the Mater and Hudson Hornet Doc set.) They’re very cute in a pine-box derby sort of way, but I can’t believe how much they are. I might have bought one or two if they were singles…but the price point for two is so high that it keeps us from taking one home and getting fond enough of it to buy others. It’s like they put it in extra-fancy packaging to justify what looks like it should be a much cheaper product. (The wooden Thomas stuff is expensive too but I don’t think it costs this much! And they look a lot bigger scale-wise, even though the tracks may fit together.) Funny…my first thought was that they take up a lot of space in the Cars section that I’d rather see with Mattel product.
What “wood” be nice to see is the little Cozy Cone clock car, or the whole clock done up like this. (Has one ever been released?)
Spending enough money on the die-casts at it is, so not for me. But they are really cute! I think Chick looks the best!! 😀
The Mack and McQueen is not sold out, it has been recalled! For what???? I do not know. But it is the nicest set of the bunch offering the classic McQueen and Wooden Mack is the most appealing design…
Uggh that’s crazy. I hate recalls. Mack is the one I found most appealing and if you can’t have mack why buy the others.
Now why didn’t they contact me to make these??? Oh yeah, I am in Canada, and they can’t find Canada….
Cute, but knot for me!!!
Besides, you can make your own. AND they’d probably look better, too! 😉 How ’bout making a custom Born In A Barn wooden racer? I’d buy one of those!
Canada? Where and what is that? 😆
Guees I am pretty much in agreement with most opinions already posted.
They are cuter than I though they would be but we won’t collect these.
I also agree looks like more like toddler toys not collectables. Although some of those ultra completists I am sure will buy these as already mentioned.
I do remember playing with ( in school I believe) with wooden cars these reminded me of.
Anyone familiar with or remember this old wooden cars line?
I know a certain Pirate that Wood like these!
for $17 bucks you can count me out. There is a reason I don’t collect Thomas.
Something tells me PirateDad is the genius behind this line. 🙂
http://bit.ly/gNWuHB
muddy mcqueen and doc
and shoot mac seems sold out, I can’t find that one online.
hmm… maybe that’s the pack I saw at the store ??
The one set I WOOD buy WOOD be Mack & McQueen.
Now me I love these. They are real wood for the same price as a diecast car so the price isn’t bad.
I won’t buy them right now because its hard enough to keep up the diecast line, I will however keep the links handy.
These would be cars that truly deserve to be displayed.
Hey Met,
I’ve always enjoyed the double entendre in your posts, but I am pretty sure this is tops of all time!
Btw, I did see a regular Lightning McQueen/Doc Hudson 2-Pack at my TRU yesterday. Next time I’m out there I’ll snap a photo for you.
They are nice cars… BUT.. Not for me.. I think the ones that will like these the most is the ones that collect Thomas the train stuff(As MET mentioned) and there will be a few dedicated cars collectors that will get them no matter what and then there will be the ones who don’t know the difference……Don’t know the difference you say ….. Well, while I was in TRU the other day I observed two different couples come in and start ravaging the cars section. Mostly the Toons section. One couple told me that since there son has seen the toon DVD he wants them all. Both looked at the wooden cars. DVD couple did not like them and said “Nah, you can see the difference and don’t like them”. The other couple just tossed them into the cart and acted as if they had just found Elvis stocking shelfs… I tried to let them know they were wood, but to no avail, they wouldnt hear of it.
So I went on my merry way and told them Happy collecting
Sorry for the rant, just my expierence.
Allen
While I won’t buy into these, I was impressed with the scope of the offering.
Oh, but they were SO cute in person. My son loves setting up his train and road sets and driving his cars on them, so this will actually be perfect for him. But since Christmas shopping is done, it will have to be for his birthday.
And I think that’s exactly the thinking behind these — all the kids with Brio trains (and/or the wooden Thomas trains) need compatible CARS. Probably priced like the wooden trains, too…
Stig Jr. had the diecast Take-Along Thomas trains, so no problem there! Cheaper, too!
Um, actually, there are many road vehicles in the Thomas,Brio,Imaginarium,Eichhorn, etc.
Plan City and Hometown Roadway are also wooden roadway.
Not for me.
I’d like diecasts… all haulers… all team crew sets… additional playsets in the 1:55 scale to go with the first 4. Re-release of the hard to find Final Laps such as Antonio & Dexter Hoover… Lizzie… Race Damaged FHH… Mood Springs Pitty… RVs… etc.
I would like to hear PirateDad’s opinion on these…
not cute, no, will not buy
Reminds me of the Geico Insurance commercial with the woodchucks chucking wood into a pond
“Hey you woodchucks… Stop Chuckin’ my WOOD!”
That guy was funny…
Brilliant for the toddlers, assuming the paint is lead free. 😉 A whole new generation of Cars fans coming soon to a theatre near you this coming Summer.
very cool, but will stick to the mattel metal!! 🙂
cute…but no
Ummmmm………. no………
