Hot Shot Lightning looks pretty much the same as the one from last year – maybe slightly shinier – Mattel’s factory clearly got a good deal on overcoat 🙂
The set is still available online which is very nice … though TRU.com doesn’t pack their shipments with much consistency so if you want it minty mint, be sure and order about 6 so the outside boxes can shield your inside boxes …

For those of with an iPad, TRU has digitized the WISH BOOK as an iPad APP … it’s free and it’s nice … (the print version is coming out this Sunday)
But there are definitely some oddities in the listings …
I don’t think anyone has seen this set in stores for 3 years? Who’s going to place an order to see if this is what you get?

If you have the iPhone, you can download the regular (NOT WISH BOOK) TRU iPhone app (als0 free). There is also one for the HK TRU stores but they don’t carry much in the way of CARS (as in pretty much nothing online). There is also a free Geoffrey Memory Game on the iPhone – nothing great but amusing for free.

TRU has Mater saves Christmas 3 pak 19.99$ remember to spend 10$ more so you can get that free cars case, what a deal!!!

BTW, I also got my TRU Santa set online; it was packed fairly well, with no visible damage to the box. However, I’m afraid I can’t echo Met’s praise on the paintwork; the plastic bumper/mouth on my Hot Shot LMQ very obviously does not match the rest of the body. Don’t know if it’s a different shade of red or just wasn’t clear-coated, but it’s rather obvious…
(Hmmm… Maybe I should have checked the ones at TRU; if they’re all correct, maybe I can put mine on Ebay as an “error!”)
My TRU had half a dozen Santa sets this morning, as well as a bunch of new UFM singles. Two full pegs of Mators, quite a few Corporal Kims, plus a full peg of Stripped Kabutos, Dragon LMQ without oil stains, Tokyo Mater with oil stains and Drift Party Mater, and a bunch of other Tokyo tuners whose names escape me. Also had a couple of MTM 3-packs, including Rasta Mater and Beanie Mater with I-Screamer.
If I walked into my local store and found even half that lot I would have heart attack! One of them would be a find!
Our wish book came last week, saw the set on the shelf at TRU as well. I’m holding out for the Target set with the new Christmas McQueen, he looks fantastic.
I’ve tried the coupons on the back page at 3 different TRU’s, but they’ve all told me to come back on Sunday.
Whats with the three Mcqueens….what version are they?
One is McQueen, Dirt Track, the other ❓

Actually that SKU is the same on all 3 above, and when I type it into TRU’s website, it comes up with Disney Pixar’s The World of Cars 5-Piece Flo’s V8 Cafe Gift Pack and Disney Pixar’s The World of Cars Piston Cup Race Day 5-Pack, each for $19.99.
These sets are now in EVERY TRU I’ve been into around western Washington. No need to order on line unless you’re not near a TRU.
My Christmas Set came in a box much too large for it. I was surprised to see the set only had a slight crimp in one corner. The Cars Fairy was watching out for it 🙂
My sets arrived also, but they were moving freely inside the box, no protection what so ever!

Mine came in a nice box with air-pak bags…of course the bags were there to fill the box, not protect the merch. Nothing but box around the 2 I bought…I like amazon’s packing..there boxes are also quite useful for trading cars 🙂
I bought mine at a Toys R Us in Springfield, IL. Very nice, if I do say so myself…
I got that Ipad app today; it’s useless for me as I don’t live in the US.
That TRU photo looks like my TRU…Tons of old Multi-packs and ROR carded Semi Cabs…Even the Cars Toon Cube with all the mega size and lenticulars iand singles is still hangin around…nothing worth getting though…even at the $3 price..
