It was an April’s Fool’s joke and now it’s “real.”
There was a company a few years back that sold ‘the invisible man’ on an empty card – it was either a freebie with another purchase or something like that. This SDCC exclusive Jet is $5.00.
For reference, here is the Johnny Lighting Ghostbusters II car from a few years back, I’m presuming they did an Ecto-1 which I cannot find …
Looks like the Hot Wheels one will be a nice companion to this one …

Good to see more unusual toys being produced!
But, have the promoters and toy companies forgotten there is a RECESSION happening and $20.00 for a Hotwheels is TOO much.
I would pay $5.00 for the “Invisible Jet” but, NOT the $10.00 to $15.00 others are asking.
I would be happy just to find some new Pixar “CARS” – nothing new here since K-Mart Day event?!?

I should also note that mattel has these Wonder woman jets in “Card keepers” too. very nice.
Ecto-1s are nicely done, nice white shipping boxes, special “Ghost Trap box, then the display itself
The Hot Wheel 99 cent Ecto-1 is packed one per case-only available when you beat the Hot Wheel collector in the back room to the punch. I’ve been able to find these only when I happen to be in the store mid day when a totally disinterested store clerk dumped them into a bin. The Invisible Jet is a $5 joke aimed at hardcore “I have to get everything collector. Watch eBay after SDCC closes. Hasbro will put their excess SDCC inventory on their website after SDCC. Last year I picked up the Marvel Universe and Little Pet Shop exclusives for the SDCC retail price plus shipping (and Taxes). Years ago Hot Wheels made a series of nicely crafted Super Hero castings. My son rolled his down our concrete driveway along with his original Star Wars lunch box.
PS: I just checked and the Ecto-1 and Invisible Jet are both on eBay at pre-order prices as well as just about every other SDCC exclusive promotional items.
you sure there are only 1 per case? Last time I went to Walmart, there were 8 on the pegs. I am pretty sure there wasn’t 8 cases worth of Hot Wheels there.
Any SDCC visitors that might grab me 1, maybe 2, of the SDCC Ecto-1s when they’re out there?
I might just have to get me one of those! And yes, there was a JL Ecto-1 from the original Ghostbusters movie; I had one! Unfortunately, I think it got mixed in with a bunch of other Hot Wheels that we sent in to my son’s daycare, so it’s long gone…
I have a few pre orders for these, but No one has ever answered my question, is that Jet drawn on the card or a clear plastic jet?

From what Hotwheels released on their Facebook page last week and Matty released on theirs, there is an actual clear jet in the package that’s gonna be available at SDCC.

The SDCC Ecto-1 is a nice looking car… I’ve only seen the 99 cent one in a store once… luckily a friend picked up a couple for me.
