Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Final Lap E Pictorial Review

The 4 latest Final Lap CARS are here …

The Jay Limo 10:00 PM version and the Jay Limo 11:35 PM are pretty much the same …

The design is now they can drop in a painted metal plate or a lenticular eye plate …

As with the McQueen here …

And kids, in case you’re confused between WET & SOAKED … Here ya go …

One burns …

At least the tampo decals are different … so it’s not just the burn marks (plus different eyes & mouths).

Vern does look familiar …

No, we are not relations …

Similar but not the same …

You look familiar …

I told Desdamonda’s House of Sea Salt Shotgun Blast Car Wash was not a good idea … just look at you … You were once Chardonnay to my Merlot …

If you get to the bottom of this, you see we’re all the same …

More Race Damaged Mood Springs pics here.

Well, one thing is for sure, we’re pretty much going to get a new cardback …

As we have ALL been released …

hey race damaged mood spring blues wheels, mood spring normal black wheels

  • over_dose says:

No. I saw someone’s comment that he wasn’t sure if the final lap had changing eyes. I was just commenting that I have not seen that. I was under the same impression as you. They do not make the new Final lap cars that way.

  • over_dose says:

ive seen most of the final lap cars except for Race Damaged Mood Springs in Central Indiana. Im about to buy race damaged mood springs on amazon.com. 5 bucks is a little salty for these things at target especially when most of the cars are virtually unknown and just knock off paint jobs. Donna Pitt, Nick stickers and vern? give me a break… I do like the one eye mater. I haven’t seen any final lap with changing eyes. They all appear to be the fixed eye ones. I have to say, I like those better. I have given up on Walmart. All they have is the eye changers. I like the Mcqueen varaitions. I get everyone I can find. I think I have close to 20 now.

  • Guy says:

    All of ’em cool.

  • kachow95 says:

NOPE. only saw 1 case D 3 weeks ago. but that’s been all

  • lou says:

anybody in IL or Midwest find Case E yet????

  • kachow95 says:

Well I live in a suburb close to chicago. It’s called Melrose park. The majority are Italians(nothing wrong with that)here. The mayor is Italian, Most of the police department and fire department are Italians an related in some way. My friend is a firefighter who’s brother is also a fire fighter and have 2 brothers in the police departent. anyways, I feel they run the whole place and that’s the reason why they get those collectibles 1st @ target. There’s this one restaurant called abruzzo’s (which was filming months ago for a new Movie called The return of Johnny Rich-something like that)and every Day cadillacs are parked along the street by the fire hydrants even though it’s against the law and blocking the sidewalk.

so yeah Met, it’s TRAINING DAY 2

  • Crazy CARS says:

I did find one eyed mater, Donna Pitts, Nick Stickers in a regular Target today in OH. and this all I have seen for a while now. I have never seen Mood springs Semi and may never see the others. A lot of old stock.
I also found several of the color changers at TRU and now they have a 2pk, which is a dollar more than the if you buy two singles.
My wife travels to all the major stores for work (Target, Wally, Meijer) and has a good report with the toys stockers and they all have kept an eye out for her and have been advising the only thing they are getting is old stock.

  • kachow95 says:

I live in IL. I’ve only seen 1 case D but far away. The target by my house gets their truck every wednesday. so yesterday I pass by and I see the truck and a police car parked behind it. first thing that came to my mind was, he’s making sure nobody steals anything. So today I go in and see No Final lap cars. I told 2 workers who were putting up toys that they’ve been out for more than 5 weeks. He asked if they were collectibles, and I said yes. so then they said, once the truck comes wednesday, the cops are outside waiting for collectible merchandise to come in and buy it right then and sell them on ebay. I got so pissed off.

(MET: That is the weirdest story of the day … TRAINING DAY2 …

Crying Man: What’s all this white powder? It’s NOT …

Cop #1: Oh yeah, it’s your lenticular CARS … Next time we grind up your Final Lap).

  • BMW says:

Found one more set today in Sugarland Texas, Vern, Jay, RD Mood Springs.
These hit big in Texas yesterday and today, all over the state. The set will go to my son who missed them Tuesday in San Antonio. These cars have all but completely disappeared from the pegs here in one day.
I can clearly state that only SuperTargets got them here Tuesday. None of the regular Targets got case E yet.

    • lou says:

disappeared in one day . . . clearly that makes sense then to produce these in low numbers, but continue to produce the lentys which sit for weeks, months, maybe longer. ARE YOU LISTENING MATTEL????

  • carsfreak64 says:

hey met? i know that it is a little late but what is the FULL case contents for case D? Im just wondering who was in there and didnt see a post about it. I dont know if i missed it or what but I would really like to know, Thanks! 🙂

  • kdthomas says:

My closest Target never got Case D. I just got back with Wet Lightning McQueen. Yeah (sarcasm), another McQueen. All the others were already gone. I have a feeling the stock room is getting these before they hit the pegs. If anyone has Jay Limo, Vern, or Wrecked Mood let me know. kdthomas1@hotmail.com

  • marcus' mom says:

I’m sorry but Wreck Damaged Mood Springs is by far the best final lapper yet!! Such detail!!!

  • applefinatic says:

I vision seeing myself with these cars in about 3yrs. ??? 🙂

  • I found Case D 2 weeks ago. Now that these are out I need to look for them. Race Damaged Mood Springs looks very well done and movie accurate! Vern looks like Axle’s cousin and a male version of Donna Pits. You’re right about the fact Wet Lightning McQueen is 100 percent different than Soaked Lightning McQueen from the Cars Toons line. Looks like The Tonight Show is finally here! Goggly eyed Jay Limo and goggly eyed Vern are easy passes.

  • Mike H says:

“I don’t know what’s harder to find: Lightning McQueen, or the Final Lap series at Target!”

Personally, I thought that static eyes Jay should have had that half-closed look like in the movie. He should have that suave, ‘yeah, that’s comedy, baby’ look to him.

  • woodshopwill says:

wet. soaked. burnt. is there also a drenched- or is that another nightmare?

  • buckland-blowouts says:

    So sexy these cars!!!

But what is up with that hair on Leno?!?!?

I dunno if I like it all that much… Although it makes it very unique… just like Jay!!!

  • Dunroamin says:

These 4 just went for over $80 plus shipping on eBay!
    Crazy!

    • erno2 says:

Why do people pay so much when these first come out? Even if you live somewhere where you cant get them, you wait until supply catches up with demand and prices come way down.

  • Roswell says:

    can someone answer me this….

why is Jay Limo making that face?
the sort of confued and concerned exprsstion,

wouldnt it be better/more logical if he had his smirk like it was in the film?

  • TarheelBill says:

Now that they are releasing the Final Laps as Lenticulars I won’t be worrying about the Final Laps. It’s gonna be Walmart to the rescue!!! At first I didn’t like the Lenticulars but after the Final Lap/Target mess…they are looking pretty dog gone good. 😉

    • Dunroamin says:

      Love the Lentys.
eBay has Jay limo, Antonio, Della Corsa, Vern from Sunny California…Man I wish the mattel container ship went the other way around the world to get to the US! Then I suppose it would be 2 years rather than 2 months delayed.

    • clasp99 says:

These are only lent and cars will only be lent from now on???

      • TarheelBill says:

From what I have heard after Final Lap all will be Lenticular. The powers that be seem to think the lenticular eyes give the Cars “more personality” like the Cars in the movie. So far I think it’s 4 Final Laps (new releases) that have been released in lenticular with the rest to follow.

        • Piston Car Hunter says:

So in essence, you end up paying $1.00 – $1.50 more for the non-lenticular, Final Lap version…

        • lou says:

do the powers that be realize that the lenty’s lie in wait on the shelf while the Final Laps fly off the shelf w/in 24 hours? so let’s see, we can sell the Final Lap fixed eye version for $5 and they will sell like hotcakes or we can sell the lenty’s for $3.50 and they will sit on the shelf forever. hmm, that’s a really tough call, i think Mattel and the powers that be should do a little more market research. what d u think?

          • TarheelBill says:

Mattel often doesn’t seem to see things the way we, the consumers, do. 😉 Their view seems to be that the Final Lap line is short lived…a bone thrown to Target (after all TGTs orders for these is not that impressive), and they probably feel that these last forty releases will sell just fine for a buck less at a gazillion Walmart stores…goofy eyes or not. They want the memory of fixed eyed Cars to fade away before the Cars 2 line hits the pegs.

            • lou says:

that just doesn’t make sense? why does Mattel want to make the bread and butter of this line a distant memory? why do they want to sell lenty’s for $3.50 when they can sell fixed eye for $5? that is just illogical. why can’t they sell fixed eyes wherever they want, they don’t have to be a TGT exclusive forever. where are you getting this info from?

              • TarheelBill says:

Mattel will sell as many Final Laps to Target as they are willing to order. The problem with the Final Laps distribution is with Target not Mattel. For some reason, probably wholesale pricing, profit margin and marketing preference, Walmart apparently chose not to take on the Final Laps (on the Final Lap card with fixed eyes) after the Target commitment was fulfilled. Of course that could change at any time because what Walmart wants Walmart gets. 🙂

  • cac1959 says:

Still not in the midwest… I have them coming from California and Texas and they were not cheap… At least I will have them…

I saw the story about Target allowing coupons from cell phones on the USATODAY website yesterday and took the time to post a comment since my e-mails to the Target website returned form e-mails.. The article did mention the name of the President of Target…

And a friend of mine in Maryland found the new 4 pack of racers with Octane Gain, Leakless, McQueen, and dang… I can’t remember the 4th… Met posted about it several weeks (or maybe even months) ago…

  • L8rM8r says:

Well I just found case D yesterday so nice to see what I will bet getting in a month or so.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am not so thrilled with wet McQueen. It reminds me of Tar McQueen. I think it is time to pull out some resin and at least make the droplets raised and look like real water.

Any of the customizes out there have any tips for what would work good for this.

    • quercy says:

I like that idea… 3D droplets… I am agree with you… SOAKED/WET… not thrilled at all. Just an other McQueen…

    • por356 says:

I would give a clear epoxy a try. Another possibility might be Elmer’s White Glue, but it may not stay on very well. I would do some testing on another surface first. Remember, you will be putting the “water droplets” on top of a decal so you do not want to use anything that will react chemically or thermally (the catalytic reaction of the epoxy) with the decal. Ideally your test surface should have a decal on it.
You will want to keep your “drops” small and rounded. Use a toothpick to apply the epoxy or glue drops. Don’t overdo them. Because of scale, less is often more in modeling.
You might find it easiest to make a holder out of thin wire so that you do not have to touch the car while you are working on it. Wrap the wire around the wheels like the factory does in the three packs. Hold the ends of the wire as a handle. Stick the handle into modeling clay, styrofoam, etc. to hold the car up while it is drying.

  • I-am-speed says:

Not in the Final Lap version. Check the photos in Met’s earlier post:

  • clasp99 says:

    Anyone seen these in NJ?

  • Micky says:

    I’m going hunting today!

    • Piston Car Hunter says:

Unless you’re in it for the thrill of the hunt, you could save time by calling ahead with the DPCI. 🙂

      • L8rM8r says:

While this is true the problem still occurs that all Final Lap cars are under the same DPCI number so they might say they have them in stock, but it could be a bunch of left overs etc.

  • I-am-speed says:

According to Vern’s rear license plate, he’s from DIPSTICK County!

Looks like he’s been rear-ended and Earl Scheib did the paint work.

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

Very nice pics! I love those comparison shots.

  • John in Missouri says:

    I still haven’t seen case D!
