I heard the rumors but SlicePie-Jake was kind enough to send a pic as proof …
Though I heard that lenticulars & Final Lap would be $3.99 and Storytellers would be $4.69 but hey, what’s an extra $.70 among friends?
What does this all mean?
The Neutral News is that because without Target & re-sellers, case sales were not reaching the previous selling numbers (yes, ironically – their target numbers 🙂 ) … so Mattel probably had to go plead with Target to buy and sell these.
Does the big picture mean that now everyone will sell both Final lap & lenticulars as part of this new plan?
Don’t know yet but intriguing possibilities …

BTW, it looks like Target will start with CASE C – so at least they won’t have as many Lightning McQueen’s and the CHASE situation will improve by a couple thousand stores.

But you are correct in predicting exactly what has happened with some WM, TRU, and Target stores……they refuse to refill pegs until most, if not all, of the old cases are gone.
Great! Something else to postpone the release of the imaginary Final Lap cars. I refuse to believe that anything new is coming… 🙂
Okay, this is nice, now I can come across more googly-eye cars, but what I want to see is Storytellers and Final Lap cars at Target, and the Cars Toons cars everywhere else. BTW, I know if anyone knew for sure they would probably have said so, but does anyone know for sure when the Final Lap cars are coming? I’m guessing not for a while, because MET usually lets us know when they get to Mattel’s warehouse, and he hasn’t said so yet.
I believe the ‘Final lap’ series will still stay a Target exclusive, but they will probably spill over in the international market later like the Storytellers did. Mattel will have to come up with some serious concessions to get Target to come up off of that goldmine…
I’ve been lurking for a few weeks now but this ridiculous move by Target has drawn me out of the woodwork.
Bring on the Final Lap cars! Leave the shifty eyes at Wally World (and on the pegs everywhere else for that matter).

I too was anti-lenticular, then what might be the first color-correct 1:55 version of DJ(w/green stripes) came along in “lenti” form and I weakened. “Lenti” Sarge also gained a spot on the shelf, then I saw FLO……too cool the way her eyes move from side to side.

Think of the scene(early in the movie), before Lightning wreaks havoc on Radiator Springs, where the townies are at Flo’s and everything is quiet, Ramone is on the left, Sarge and Fillmore to the right, and Flo is INSIDE……you see her eyes shift from side to side as she looks out the window……that’s what Flo’s eyes do in “lenti” form.
In other words, “resistance if futile”. (Shoot, Now I’m picturing Jeri Ryan in her uniform.)
I think of the lenticulars as a novelty item. I bought a set of townies plus tunerz but I think that will be all. I just can’t see buying a full extra set of them.
Kmart is starting to step up as they now own the lowest price in town at 3.69 for singles and they have been getting all of the new 3 packs and oversize— they also seem to be the only one right now carrying the cars toons singles— could it be that Kmart is making a smart move following the success of Cars day 1 and 2?
You’ve seen the Cars Toons singles at Kmart? Wow, that’s amazing.
I don’t think they’ve been released yet, but they have pegs for both Cars Toons singles and Mega Size. I talked with a worker who seemed to think that they were coming in this weekend, but I’m not sure I would trust him. Still, it’s nice to know that they will at least be getting them soon.
I wish there were more KMarts around here.
I quit buying singles cases once the Lenticulars came out… not enough variety to justify the higher price. I also am not ordering the Mega Size M case – 3 Octane Gain Semi, 1 Frank, 1 Mack, and 1 Gray – maybe we got spoiled with the selection in the H and K cases. There were some great case assortments in the launchers series (B, C, and to a lesser extent D) but the Lightyear Launchers case assortments are have not been as good.
I’ll go check a Target store on Sunday morning.
Who on earth okayed the Semi line anyway? It had to be the same guy who okayed Lenticulars. What a waste of resources!

The moment I hit the Cars aisle, I feel hundreds of eyes on me, and some have the audacity to wink. My shrink said to avoid Lenticulars like the plague.

I think its possible by them not selling the cases in the amounts or the speed of the old line that these could go away quicker rather than later and we can all get back to the ones we know and love.

Nope. Still haven’t caught lenticular fever, and I most likely won’t. …Now if the eyes moved or changed expressions instead of just opening and closing, then that might be a different story.
Then you need to check out Flo! She moves her eyes side to side. I am not a fan of Lenticulars, but she is definitely a cutie.
Lightning Ramone also moves his eyes side to side.
I can’t believe that they made the leap to Target, that does give me hope that the final lap line will not be a Target Exclusive, but who knows and Met put it perfectly with the Lost reference.
I would not quite call Sven a peg warmer here, but I have passed on at least 6-8 of these I have come across in my travels.

I doubt it. This is the most Svens I’ve ever seen on a shelf. I was lucky to find my own Sven 2 weeks ago. These days I see nothing but No Stall cabs.

Yep, the chases were gone, but plenty of Flo, Nitroade, Luigi & Guido, Wingo, and Snot Rod. The flea market guys are at this store every morning at 8am to snatch up anything new.
that sucks! great pic, full pegs. I have not seen that in a long time at my target. was hoping to today, but just megasized. I plan to check tomorrow am. still hoping for “Final Lap” cars to be put out by mistake
Our nearest Target has had the same CARS on their pegs for weeks….need a Cactus McQueen? There are probably 16 pegs, with 1 or 2 CARS on a peg, but nothing anyone is looking for these days.
Ours is all Tumbleweed McQueen, Lightning McQueen, and Ferrari F430. And like someone else posted on here, what’s with all these No Stall Semi’s???
That’s about what’s left when everyone grabs the 3 Svens and the 1 Elvis in that case!
Typical! That’s the situation with any new display around here too! I’ve written to Mattel three times concerning ‘Chase” Cars and their negative effect on collecting. I get the same canned response. The letter is routed to the ‘appropriate’ department. It would be nice if the Piston Cup racers become available in the ‘classic’ line also.
Anybody designing an ObamaAutoCrusher to do away with these Lenticular Clunkers?

Unfortunately, as you can all see from the photo, all of the singles are priced at $4.69 at this Target. At the 2 other Targets I visited this morning the price was up to $3.99 but no lenticulars.
Oh yeah, and in my neck of the woods, Sven is now a peg warmer. 🙂
