Disney Pixar CARS Toons: ‘Mad Mel’ Made His Own Diecasts to Fill Out ‘Lights Out’

‘Mad Mel’ is mad that his ‘Lights Out’ Toon series is incomplete so he made his own … AMAZING!

Mad Mel writes: “I really like the “CARS on the Road” series and especially the “Lights Out” segment. Decided to try and make my own complete set of the ghost cars from it. Think there are 18 in all in the ballroom. Believe  Eli Turnpike is one of the initial three that came out of the paintings. Three forklift waiters, two from the LeMons banquet and one playing the organ. Purchased the available ghost cars, gathered and/or am making the rest.”

“Experimenting with mixing paint to try and match the color on the issued ghost cars. Gotten close. Once the correct shade is made, plan on painting the “stock” versions so that they’re green like the issued ones. Customized two Jimmy Lugwrench cars to look like the ones in the short.  Also modified two Timothy Timezone Truecoat cars to resemble the ones in the short. The most difficult one is the Wraith Rod. Been working on it since September. It’s made from the plastic color changer Maters. It’s easier to work with the plastic. What’s taking so long is I made a complete frame, engines and suspension. Still a ways to go. Making his two familiars as well, they’re going to be a more simplified build. They’re a little bigger in scale than in the short, but I’ve no other option. Reason the finished customs are unpainted is because my unheated garage is workspace and can’t paint in cold. Eventually plan on modifying McQueens mouth into a “yelling” form. Currently just taped  over and a test mouth drawn onto it.”

You can check out his Instagram for his work in progress – great stuff!

Thanks, “Mad Mel!”
