Disney Pixar CARS: Takara Tomy 15th Anniversary Lightning McQueen & Mater
Last September, we got a Gold Lightning McQueen to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of CARS and the introduction of the now iconic Lightning McQueen. Takara Tomy introduced their own version …
He of course got a Mount Fuji logo and Cherry Blossom motif …
We did not get a 15th anniversary Mater but in Japan, Mater does.
Both are presumably 1:64 scale. They were available as singles and in a 2-pack.
They are not in a 2-Pack… only singles.
(MET: Jpn Amazon LINK).
Tomica is 1:64 scale, Mattel is 1:55 — so they are roughly 86% the size of Mattel. For some small cars, the differences aren’t bad, but others, they look weird. As an example, I feel the Mattel Sarge is way too large, so I use the Tomica ones to look better next to Mattel’s Fillmore. The Mattel Mach Matsuo is huge, so there I also used the Tomica model in my collection.
Ebay is pretty much the only option. You can get them for about $17-$20 each right now.
Where is the best place to find these Takara Tomy Cars?
Ebay is probably the best. Search “Mcqueen day”
I have 2 Tomy Cars; the Apple Next Gen racer #84 (the name escapes me) and the #00 Intersection racer Flip Dover. I like them better than the Mattel ones. Also, the character’s name is printed on the chassis which I thought was a nice touch and very helpful too. If these had been readily available I would have collected them instead.
I believe the scale is slightly smaller, is it right? I may get one to see how there are.
You are right, they are 1/64 scale.
