Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Mater, Lightning No Tires? No Problem
Thanks “John H.” for the great pics!
Fun 2-pack of Mater & Lightning with No Tires.
John H notes, “I think this is only the second Lightning released with the early Cars 2 paint scheme. (from the Wheel Well Motel and hanging out with Mater scenes). They overlooked painting McQueen’s rims having a yellow edge. Paint scheme is most recognizable by small “95” on roof.”
No tires collection – though I guess you can add Leroy Traffik as a part time in this club.
Thanks for the great pics, “John H.”
As John notes, “These do not fit HO scale track (1:87), or ‘O’ scale (1:48) Real Galloping Geargrinder would have been on 3′-6″ gauge track with a scale model track gauge of ‘OO’ but I don’t have a piece of ‘OO’ track to try them on.”
alex vandel also has no tires. should uh… add him to your collection…
OH I NEED THESE!!! I have been looking but have not found them. I have been planning on creating an diorama of that scene for a very long time and have been trying to figure out how to redo their wheels into rims only. Now I can just buy these and be done with this. Oh how I need to locate them…
I have this 2 pack and I wish mater had a different face…wide mouth, eyes wide, kinda like he’s screaming and laughing at the same time, similar to when Frank was chasing them in Cars.
looks like i need to pull out a piece of HO track 🙂
Can you post a pic of the back cover of this pack?

Correction: The “real” Galloping Geargrinder was not 42″ gauge, but 36″ gauge, it was built using a Buick truck (for #1) , on the ‘Rio Grande Southern’ in southwestern Colorado. Eventually the RGS had seven “Galloping Geese”, #2 through #7 were built using Pierce-Arrow carbodies, and several were later up-sized using Wayne school bus bodies. Most still exist, in running condition, and #1 has been replicated by a dedicated railfan.
If anyone has any detailed questions, I have over 25 books on that particular railroad alone!
Since Mattel uses 1:55 scale for the diecasts; 1:55 scaled track that is 36″ gauge would measure .6545″ (16.62mm). Regular HO train track is 16.5mm (.6496″) — so just grab a piece of HO snap track for your display.
Here’s a quick website for the RGS “Geese”:

That’s HO track in the photos.
