Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Diecast Themes 2016
Surprise, the 2016 diecast themes 2016 has arrived before they updated the website. The first releases are nearly all re-releases with a few repaints. The Deluxe releases feature a higher ratio of new releases.
Thanks for the heads up, “John H.”
The “95 Returns” theme not shown here is mostly unknown except for Red, Otis and the return of Galloping Geargrinder. “Paris Tour” looks pretty good with the long awaited and shown but never released Inflight Mater, Daniella Muffler & Shelley Shift and Sgt. Highgear! Plus new – Flatbed Junk Truck Vehicle (Oversized) and the return (new?) of a Deluxe Finn McMissile.
Thanks, “John H.”

I’d just like to add that this is a very preliminary list of about 80 Cars, some of which are just educated guesses based on eBay and other sources. If I remember correctly, the 2015 poster had about 120-ish Cars on it so there are definitely a few surprises still in store.
About the transformation McQueen… We have seen two versions on ebay… one, like it should be, with the original Rust-eze spoiler and the other with the WGP spoiler… Should we assume the second one is only a custom? or Mattel will eventually release that version too?…
So, I was pleasantly surprised to find Taia Decotura in my local WM this morning. However, when I went to check out, the UPC came up blank in the POS system. They did a price check, and I was unpleasantly surprised to find that the oversized cars are now $12.97? I told them that sounded wrong…so I kept my receipt and I will check back in a few weeks to see if they get it right.
I recall Oversized going for $9.97 or thereabouts.
(MET: Not long ago, they were $5.99 … but I noticed that on Walmart.com – they seem to going by variable-what the market will bear pricing ranging from $5.99 to $18 for a Deluxe. Weird … They might be doing some auto price matching of Amazon – not realizing Amazon pricing depends on if it’s a 3rd party seller).
By chance they are not doing that with milk, butter and bread !!! 😉
If Walmart is following ‘market’ prices for these things, that really sucks. I will probably stop collecting if that’s the case.
This is a new pet peeve of mine. I buy a lot of books, and Amazon has recently bought up ABEBooks.com. Amazon often uses a pricing algorithm whereby if there are 100,000 people Google searching a title, and only two or three books in the seller database; that must automatically mean it is “rare” and thus the price jumps way up for those chains who don’t bother to think about their selling price. I have seen some pretty common books on sale for up to $4,000.00 because of this trend. Which makes it all the sillier when you can just buy from a non-chain seller for $15.
That being said, Amazon has a few listings for Taia…starting at $30 (shipped). Ouch!
Rang up a Taia Decotura at Walmart a couple of days ago for $5.97 + tax.
So far as I can tell, it is exactly the same as the version released a couple of years ago.
Three weeks ago I bought 2 Taia’s @ $5.97 at Wal-Mart. Today I bought 1 Deluxe Circus Pickup @ $5.97 which was from a factory fresh cartoon right off the stocker’s cart. I’m in western Washington State. Your price is $3.00 more than TRU.
For long time collector that is not very exciting to see about only a dozen NEW characters and/or versions and about a half dozen unknown/question mark… so possibly about 20 “new” cars for 2016 in the main line… That will be a long year… Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited to see the long time promised Cone-teeth Mater, Otto Bonn, Daniella Muffler, Inflight Mater, McGirdle and Sgt. Highgear…
Hopefully the rest of Cars universe will be a little bit more active in 2016… Expecially the Toons… new ones please!… RS 500 1/2 ?, Protect and Serve? (Still dont get why the movie is not coming out…)
Transformation McQueen, in the Dinoco Daydream series, must be the half Dinoco and half Rusteze McQueen. You think? (Or it could be half Sally)
DJ is in Sheriff’s Impound Lot series and Snot Rod is most likely too.
Here’s 2016 DJ
On that pic we do not see the lock on the wheel… But the Impound DJ was originally facing the other direction so it is maybe just reversed. HOWEVER the impound Tuners were Race-O-Rama CHASE. soooooo…..
(MET: Yea, it looks like just the theme is called IMPOUND but the CARS are not – as noted, the original releases were CHASES … and it’s technically correct as they had to be towed in before applying the boot. 🙂 ).
wow, very exciting, thanks Met
