Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Transition Dinoco Lightning McQueen Mystery
Thanks for the great pics, “John H.”
The “Transition Dinoco Lightning McQueen” has been floating around the back door parts of eBay.
It is a mystery since it’s NOT on the 2015 poster and not part of the regular release, Since exclusives are not shown on the poster – presumably it’s an exclusive.
My guess is that it might another Target/Target.com acrylic box release like last years RS Team Lightning McQueen.
Why? Well, with a second slight variant has shown up – so like last years where the retail version was different than the Target.com version (see link above for the differences).
It is just a guess but my guess is since it was a successful deal for Mattel and Target, why not do it again with a repaint plus a new tampo decal.
My guess is both are real since counterfeiters are generally lazy and this is too detailed for someone to just random decide to make them … you could argue that the one on the right might just be a low res scan of the other tampo decal but if you look closely, it looks different enough that it is just a second version.
More minor detail differences just like last year’s.
Thanks for the nice pics, “John H.”
Got one of the variants today in the mail. It’s the one with the side windows cast with the rear window (like normal). Another interesting thing about it, the eyes are painted over a cast eyelid, but the cast eyelids are a different shape than the painted eyelids. It has the “Rust-eze” on the rear end, but is missing the “Lightning McQueen” signatures above the side windows. Interesting all-around, hmmm?
I’m thinking of making a 1:24 of this car…wonder if I could pull it off by painting OVER the mattel 1:24 collector series LM…hmmm
Every single decal on these two cars are different.
One has the side windows integral with the body, the other has them molded with the rear window like normal. Interesting, which means it isn’t just paint variation, it is a tooling variant.
Missing the Rusteze logo on the tail panel on that bottom picture (right side)
