Disney Pixar CARS Diecast: Schuco German Lightning 1:18
“Frank F” sends along an interesting heads-up on a German-only release from old school diecast company, Schuco – an 1:18 scale Lightning McQueen.
On the surface, it looks like the Mattel 1:24 high end version from a couple years ago – sharp looking and probably synthetic rubber tires. The painted bolts on the rims looks nice and detailed.
But they’ve taken it a step further! Opening hood!
ENGINE!
Or BRAIN!
Well, I guess we now know that his engine is where you’d think it should be. I guess his tongue is under the engine block. 🙂
Lightning appears to be old school – is that a distributor cap with plugs?
The clasps that hold on his back spoiler look nice and detailed – actually removeable? (as Lightning did to appear as Cruisin’ Lightning in CARS 1) – nice even if it’s not removeable – just that it looks like it could be is a great touch. There’s not much direct distribution in the US but a few of these will probably sneak over. It looks like it’s limited to 2,500 and “Frank F.” thinks it’ll be around 60€.
Of course, every Schuco diecast from 1:87 and on up is always nicely done like this cool 1:18 scale MicroBus coming …
Thanks for the nice heads up, “Frank F.”
Wow, that is amazing!
Lightning with rain tires?
A lot nicer than the mattel one…let’s hope it is proportionally correct
my car’s brain is the ecu and it’s located in the passenger side kick panel below the glove box. some cars’ ecus are behind the glove box or elsewhere near the firewall in the passenger compartment.
They also showed Lighting’s engine in Time Travel Mater when he opened it up to get a new radiator cap. Looks like the same engine.
His engine looks correct for pre-2006 stock car racing.
Nice piece, a little too expensive though.
The brain is supposed to be in the passenger compartment. Their was a reference to that location in the bonus features of the CARS Blu Ray. Can’t remember exactly, but it was in the deleted scenes or something like that.
Just checked the Schuco online store (schucoshop.com) and the price tag is exclusive indeed: 179 Euros, roughly about $240 US, including taxes 🙂 It’s not out yet and so far there is no release date given.
I always thought the engine was the Cars character’s heart. A blown engine would be kind of like Cardiac arrest. Not sure where thier brains would be. Maybe behind the eyes?
Reminds me of the Rod torture scene in Cars 2 where he sneers at Prof Z “so what? I can repair an engine block!”
