Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: EU Pricing Comes to TRU
Er, has the price doubled in a month?
But hey, it’s like being at Euro Toys R Us without having to leave Springfield.

It’s like a trip to Winnipeg, minus the dog sled team.
We had a decent-size semi-annual shipment of Cars and Planes show up at retail AFTER Christmas due to inclement weather. As far as I can tell, the newest singles were 2013 Case C. They’ve since been cleaned out. Leaving the usual suspects of sidecut 2011 cards. Our mainline singles range from $6.97 CAD to $6.99 while Deluxe are $9.99 to $12.99 and I’ve seen two-packs as high as $17.99 at TRU here. That being said, there were next-to-none to be found at Toys R Us last week. The big excitement last fall was that a grocery store chain that operates across Western Canada found a pile of cases with The Queen and Funny Car Mater in it. Those flew from the pegs. We’re back to Sumos again.
I haven’t been out shopping for a week or so. But after reading about the price hikes and lean inventories, I decided to look at our local stores in Central VA yesterday.
Here’s the synopsis:
Kmart
Singles: $3.99 (all 2013 stock left over from Cars Event day)
Deluxe: $9.99 (none on hand, Nigel & Lewis 2-packs filling pegs)
Target
Singles: $3.49 (full pegs with mix of 2013 and WOC cards)
Deluxe: $6.99 (Macks and 3 Nelsons)
Walmart
By far our best selection for the past few months
Singles: $3.97 (Mostly WOC including 3 Timothy Twostrokes, Sukis, Magen)
Deluxe: $9.97 (Only Cars Toon Monster Trucks in stock)
Also stuffed pegs of Planes (WOC cards) including Gunnar, Ishani, Echo, and both clean and grimy Chugs and 3 lingering Tokyo Mater 3-packs
TRU
Singles: $4.99 (Stuffed pegs with usual characters on 2013 and WOC cards)
2-packs: $7.99 (2013 peg warmers)
Deluxe: $9.99 (only stagnant Hydrofoil Finns and Dustin Mellows)
Disney / Pixar CARS and PLANES have “jumped the shark”.
Lack of product (or at least “new” product) was bad enough but, now with higher prices – NO THANKS – time to collect something else!
Toys-R-Us has ALWAYS been the WORST place for toys!!!
“Why shop anywhere else” – because Toys-R-Us NEVER has “new” product and what they do have is always far MORE EXPENSIVE then Target or Wal-Mart.
We do not get much “new” product here but, when we do – I always find “new” stuff at Target or Wal-Mart for less expensive and months ahead of Toys-R-Us (if TRU gets it all)!?!
Deluxe Nelson Blindspot and Chucky Choke were $11.99 at TRU in eastern PA this past weekend. Singles were $4.99. All singles were TRU Radiator Springs. Lots of Leroy Traffics and FHH. None were the 2014 white cards.
WM still had singles at $3.47, but all 2013. Target at $3.49 but pegs were empty save a few LMcQ with cones.
mine are still at $9.99
it’s not a great price but much better than $11.49
Ive found the same conditions here in Kansas. We are not alone.
Our local TRUs are at $5 for singles and $10 for deluxes. Makes it an easy to leave them behind unless someone has specifically asked you to get it for them.
Yikes…that’s more then we pay in Toronto !!!!!
As of this morning, the TRU in Brossard, QC had no CARS or PLANES die cast toys, and no space allotted for them. The area previously used was now assigned to Despicable Me 2 and Monsters University. The store manager said they would not be carrying any CARS/PLANES merchandise until PLANES: Fire and Rescue comes out. 🙁
Our local Walmart doesn’t have a single Car, not even an old torn Lightning or Francesco. There’s no peg space for diecast Cars at all, only for Planes singles.
They won’t last long like this. Even though people around here still want them, Chuck Choke Cables and Nelson Blindpots are being left on the pegs at those prices and will continue to be,
Is there an official countdown clock somewhere for when TRU will finally implode?
