Disney PLANES: PLANES That Fly
Strangely – so far, none of the PLANES releases of planes actually fly in the air – yes, you can throw them in the air but technically they all read NOT A FLYING TOY – maybe all for legalese reasons. I mean if you can sue a dry cleaner for $67 million dollars, let’s not encourage people to think PLANES should be flung about?
But Thinkway apparently has the technology to create lift with a toy object – it flies!
I think it’s rubber band powered but I could be wrong … for $19.99, it should be a tiny cold fusion motor and can fly a small child around the backyard … but maybe I expect too much for $20.
Then there’s even older technology – we’ve probably killed all the balsa trees so this might be polymer (sound better than foam-plastic for $9.99, right?)
Again, maybe I’m just a cranky old guy now for $9.99, I want more than a whistling sound …
For $9.99, I want a little pilot with a parachute to jump out and yell THINKWAY! when it starts to fall to the ground.
I guess for $9.99, they had to justify the extra piece that rubber band flings the plane? Or did they want to avoid a lawsuit from Little Johnny injuring his router cuff throwing this thing thus preventing him from being the next Aaron Rodgers?
Thanks for the nice pics “Wraukin & John H.” – at least these fly – even though these planes are priced like Business Class …
Surprisingly, these sold out very quick at TRU and very little of the diecast stuff is gone!
My boys and I are looking forward to movie. I though I saw a Plane that both flies and makes bubbles. If I see it again, I’ll take pics.
Just as there are now 1:43 scale racing set for Cars, someone will pick up the licensing agreement for small engine Planes.
I wish Planes didn’t get so much hate. I think I’m the only one excited for this movie.
Your not alone. We are excited too!! I think it’s going to be a huge hit with kids.
“Flies With Whistling Sound” — you know, the sound you hear when a plane loses power and does a deep dive before crashing, something the entire Planes franchise will do by Halloween.
For 2 or 3 dollars more Disney offers a way better product. Larger, more detailed, more metal, his own acrylic casing display, nice background card, runway display, more comparable scale with 1:55 cars… and boxes are designed to be stackable…! And Disney does not bugging you to not selling certain models because they are qualified as “collectible item” (not to name TARGET) And Disney offer them all “ON LINE”… Disney really want to sell their merchandize…
I’m sorry but @ approx $5.99 (Target & Wal-Mart…) or approx $6.99 (Kmart & TRU…) these “very small” diecast/plastic are almost double priced than cars singles… (Planes singles are in fact deluxe price but smaller than a 1:55 scale single… which does not make any sense to the customer but fabulous profit to the company… you know which one I am talking about, are you? 🙂 )
I do not believe the secondary characters will sell very well… The first wave may have a small success but serious collectors will be the only ones interested in 6 months from now… “IF” the line survive ’til then…
