See that big spike right near the end of 2009? That is when I started collecting.

I’m actually surprised the line on the graph didn’t stop completely not long into 2011. Ha!

It seems strange to me that they go through all the designing and mold making for rare cars like Damaged Mood Springs, the Showgirls and all the exclusive cars in the 4 packs, yet continue to crank out the same 6 peg-warming cars. Start using these molds again! Release cases with a great mix of cars (even repaints) and they would be getting my money faster than I can earn it. I think releases like the Super Chases and regular Chases also ruined the fun for kids- who are there best consumers. How can they reenact scenes if they are missing hard to find cars? Just because it works for their tried and true line of Hot Wheels doesn’t mean it will work elsewhere. And close those backdoors in China. I’m guilty of purchasing from them, but they are making more on 100 cars than Mattel is making on selling an entire pallet of sealed cases. End of rant. Sorry for the length. Let me know if you disagree.

You’ve got that right, pachanga… Cars sell in spite of Mattel, not because of Mattel… Many of my friends have moved on from Cars due to their children (and my grandchildren) outgrowing them… not being able to buy new stock for so long due to oversaturation of the first Cars2 cases turned off a lot of retailers…

It is just like every company I know and even the one I work for. The people in charge have no clue. There are so many opportunity’s to make money however they do not know how to run a company. It is a real shame. I know they are setting around saying “what happend”

    • Tom says:

No, they aren’t sitting around saying “what happened”. I think it is worse than that. Like other codependent relationships, they blame the victim, saying Cars aren’t selling well due to poor demand.
