John, how big can you make something?
Kevin, the Next engine scanner can grab an object about 10″x12″. It works by combining multiple scans so you could keep grabbing ‘chunks’ of a larger object and blend them together in your model to make something larger.
I sold the scanner after a couple of years as it wasn’t getting used all that much.
I never have bought a 3D printer, there are plenty of service bureaus you can use. That way you have a wide variety of output options and someone else maintains the machine and consumables. I recommend you check out Ponoko. They offer all sorts of model output options and their prices seem very fair.
To make your own die cast you might computer model a mold then melt and pour old Lightning McQueens and Finn McMissles into it. 🙂
So when is someone going to start busting out some custom Cars with these?
I’ve been using the Nextengine scanner for a few years, it does a good job.
