Stay safe Jack. Very glad to hear your family is doing okay. Saw some of those images on the TV, so far so good us near Philly.
The low lying areas of NYC and NJ among other places are devastated. We received record storm surge. I live 9 blocks from the beach. Some of my block was inundated. By the Grace of God the water went over my sidewalk , halfway up my front yard grass and stopped right there. A few more inches and my basement would have started filling up. I can not thank God enough right now.
However all the blocks below I cannot begin to describe. The water came up over 10 feet in many peoples houses. Some small houses by the beach imploded. There are people stranded on their second floors everywhere. The whole neighborhood is blacked out down there. There are thousands blacked out all over. The rescuers can’t get to them all. God bless those people.
I witnessed people who literally had to swim from their homes. I saw others being recued by boat. The water came fast they say. I feel so sad for all the people. This has to be the worst storm in NYC history.
Tomorrow when the sun comes up I can only imagine what it will look like. Thee have been a ton of trees down and fires caused by downed electrical lines as well. It’s going to be a long haul ahead.
(MET: I saw the autos floating away and that one building that had the facade taken off – well, stay safe and warm and I guess you still have power – I’m sure you’ll get no sleep tonight but stay safe! At least everyone had some warning …)
Glad you are okay Jack. Be safe tomorrow as you are out helping neighbors, ad I know you will.
Yes everyone had warning but orders to evacuate came a bit late. That and even with warning hardly anyone could have imagined it would be this bad. Very few actually evacuated.
So many have lived in neighborhoods for so long and have been through so many storms but the water never even came close to these levels. Even with being warned some things you just can’t believe can happen until you actually see it.
It’s just a very sad day in the Tri state area. Damage and sad stories everywhere. Many people lost everything.
It’s good to hear that you are safe and that your house did not get harmed!!
Glad that your family is ok!
Glad to hear you Jack!!
Western Mass has been relatively uneventful. Power still on and fire in the wood stove. We live in a small log cabin and it’s nice and cozy!
A huge old tree in the neighbors front yard fell in the street. The city DPW showed up and had it cleared within an hour. Way to go Frederick DPW!
powers still on, batteries and flashlights ready – basement still dry. Not too bad so far. You could probably go onto the weather channel page and find some real photos which are quite impressive by now. Not that the snow is not impressive……
Hopefully everyone will be fine
