Mattel Disney Pixar CARS Toons: Lightning McQueen Hawk

“John H.” sends along nice photos and a quick overview …

“Lightning McQueen Hawk, (the big 14” all plastic one), there were two, both had badly beaten up boxes, I think Mattel will need to rethink the packaging soon.
For $45 you get a plastic car with “75+” phrases and sounds triggered by internal motion sensors. Instead of the usual push button, you transform the car by opening the rear panel. (jet exhausts light up) I think this toy is this Christmas’ McQueen Alive.”

As noted, he’s a “flying” buddy and when they put parens around a word, in toys world, it’s as the warning notes on the front of the box, he’s a flying buddy but “NOT A FLYING TOY.”

Thanks, John H. … his review that, “… I think this toy is this Christmas’ McQueen Alive.” can be twisted into PR lingo as the “rootinest-tootinest interactive toy this side of Flobot!” But I suspect he might be alluding to the fact it might need a price adjustment to make it more NEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDD! 🙂

If you don’t want to go out and hunt for it, Amazon has it with free shipping.

The Radiator Springs McQueen part about it is non cannon, and the fact you can still see the side lightning bolts when he’s transformed makes it less interesting.

This toy reminds me a lot of another ‘Hawk’ toy.

‘Thunderhawk’, from the Kenner M.A.S.K. toy line.

That toy also converts from normal car to jet plane. It sports a similar paint scheme with red, purple, and yellow lightning bolts. The engines are set up in the same way as well.

I thought it was priced to high too. The packaging on both of the cars at our local Kmart were beat up already when they had just got them in, it’s flimsy and just not well thought out. My son saw it though and freaked out (he loved it) so I paid full price even though I didn’t want to and put it up for Christmas. It just seems like a $25-$30 toy to me, defiantly not a $45 one! My kid loved it though and I was worried if I didn’t get it now I would not find it closer to Christmas.

Every package should contain a couple of $20 bills, sheesh!!

This is a $25 toy…even the packaging doesn’t scream $45…it needs a box or something to make it look worth that much. I don’t get where their heads were pricing it this high.

Easy pass. This is a destined to have to be clearanced item for sure.

TRU here has had this for a couple weeks. It seems OK, but the price is a little high. Also, the missiles are not canon, I believe?

This will be a definate “check it out on the shelf” kinda toy before we make any decisions. Sounds pretty fun though.
