CRAZY ! This brings to mind a disaster which happened in Sacramento in 1972. A vintage F-86 Sabre Jet was departing a small airport the day after an air show and failed to gain altitude. It crashed into a Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor on the other side of the boulevard from the airfield. The crash and ensuing fire killed a total of 22 people. Miraculously, the pilot survived. At the time, I lived less than 3 miles away and could see the smoke from my residence. Changes were made to landing and take-off policies at that airfield soon thereafter in an effort to prevent similar disasters.

I once had lunch in a little restaurant with a great view of McConnell Air Force Base near Wichita, KS. It was incredible watching all the different types of military aircraft landing and taking off.

Wow! My nephew in LA likes to eat at the In-N-Out by LAX and watch the planes take off and land…
