Just watched Wall*E on BluRay on our new TV last weekend. Of course my kids loved it, (we have watched in recorded on the DVR off the Disney Channel about 20 times), but my wife had never seen it before. She thought it was great and ordered the Toy Story Trilogy box set for them for Easter. My kids and I love those Pixar movies.

Many people do not realize how much effort, time, and creativity goes into a CGI movie. It is moving ART

What is included in the budget amounts? If it were just the labor for the last example that would only work out to $32/hr. So one of those numbers is not matching up, unless most of the labor is done overseas.
5.7 million man hours seems like an awful lot.
That’s like a thousand people working 40 hours a week for about 3 years

Normally a Pixar movie is made in about 4 years, so it may average out. There was this really neat ( 😀 )article in TIME Magazine about 3 weeks ago on Brave, and it talked about how the movie (and most all the other movies) were made. It said that this was the first time they updated their animation system in more than 10 years, because before it would have been extremely difficult to make items like lichen-covered rocks and Merida’s hair.

I’ve got to think that voice talent, computers, electric bills for all the computers, and licensing rights with auto manufacturers took up a big chunk of the pie. Is the cost of distribution separate from the movie budget?

  • Tom says:

Amazing stuff, even the cracks between the floor tile.

  • John in Missouri says:

    Neat!

There was a time not long ago when everyone was bothered by the “FIRST” comment. And if you’ve been around awhile, we are all guilty of that. The consensus was that if you want to leave a comment, add some intellectual content to it! I donate to this site and view it at least once or twice aday, sometimes “five”. Frankly John, I tire of seeing the “NEAT” comment and am starting to crindge everytime I see it. The fact that you are an advid viewer is great! And the “neat” comment is not really what bothers me. It’s the fact that that’s ALL you write. It seems childish to me.

I’m sure you could care less and you will probably continue with the charades but I know I am not the only one with this opinion. If I continue to be bothered by these kind of petty things on this site, I will have no choice but to hang up my takefiveaday hat like so many others before me. And I’m sure no one will miss me.

No offense to you John and no comment is needed. I’m sure you mean to only humor us. It’s just my opinion.

      • Fillmore1234 says:

If I’m not mistaken, you seem to say it quite a bit too. I thought it was pretty neat, kind of like a catchphrase or something like that.

Maybe we could switch it to something CARS related? Like how CONE-grats is congrats or something or other.

Just trying to lighten the mood 🙂

(MET: And the last shall be first – NEAT! Oh no, it’s starting again … though I suppose it’s better than the 2008 craze – Neato Peato banana rama bonana bana bama mo fana dana banana neato peato Tom danza momanza).

        • Bumper Save says:

I hate to poop in your cornflakes John in MO, but I agree with MackDaddy. Normally I do think something is neat but I only say it when it is super neat. I think it’s here because it’s neat, that’s a given. Nothing personal.

    • Tom says:

Keep on commenting “Neat!”, John. It is all that keeps me going some days
      😛
