Mattel Disney Pixar CARS Diecast: Petersen Museum Exhibit Opening, Part I
The Petersen Museum Exhibit of: “From Silver Screen to Diecast – Disney Pixar CARS Imagined by Mattel” opened to the public today. It will run until April 2012.
You can see in more details of this section in Part II of this post (which covers the unreleased CARS of CARS 1).
And your hallway looks like this also, right?
And Mariela P. & Julia B. was there to represent T5 and snap us some great pics …
And your CARS 2 display … guess this couldn’t fit on the store shelves …
And yep, there’s Rip …
Some new CARS 2 from the booklet and previously seen at SDCC …
Not Limey Ramone, there’s another one.
And a few others already seen …
A new fun Tokyo oversized to add to the list …
And previously seen …
And a couple surprises …
Released in the Final Lap series but now chromed up for a re-release? Maybe it’s just another “old” CAR with a new name? Or the plan was to make Derek chrome but they decided to save money and use matte so this is just a random proto shot? Or maybe Derek Dobbs is getting a re-release?
Originally scheduled as a Final Lap so just randomly shown? Also suspiciously chrome? Maybe some old timers chrome box set coming? Or some old timers chrome box planned – now just a dead gleam in someone’s eye?
Nothing obvious listed in coming soon so hard to tell what’s what.
Some notes from Julia:
“I don’t want to be bearer of the bad news, but it did not look that they were bringing haulers back….However I saw very very cool cars that should be coming out. Big display (Lightning McQueen shaped case) was a big mix of lenti, cars 1, cars 2 and few sdcc cars. I wish they would separate them somehow and found different way to display. Also toons were thrown in the mixture as well.
Was nice to see real red ransburg, sots and sdcc items like lightning storm mcqueen. Display with haulers was nicely done, but some pitty were identical to each other. Some sets did not have pitty at all. And there were no signs of crew chiefs.”
Thanks for the great pics, Julia B & Mariela P!
I saw the Mildred and Chromed Derek and a few other unreleased Final Laps on the Hong Kong ebay seller’s list a while back. Thought they were just prototypes but maybe not?
Super Chase?
Which HK ebayer did you see these?
I can only imagine if I took my son to that museum, how many times would he ask me why he doesn’t have this car, or that car, or the one over there yet?
Those displays are cool. Thanks to Julia & Mariela for the photos. Too bad the curators didn’t consult an expert to ensure compliance with canon on the displays!
This is an insult to display cars (prototype) they will never sale to public… I hate them so much for doing that. By the way why all the ones they never released and will never release look so beautiful??? 🙁
did you say LENTI’S NOOOO!
Haha, just noticed they used HH mcqueen in the c2 display.
Awesome displays. Can’t wait to find those cars in real life.
Thank you for the great pics!!
Thanks to John, Mariela and Julia for the pics
Ditto! It’s so great to be able to see this stuff and kind of virtually attend. Thanks a million gals, and John!
yay! Mildred! Now my Red won’t be lonely anymore.
“Amazing cars!! PRODUCE THEM WE WILL BUY THEM!!!!!!! Boink, Boink, Boink (pounds the microphone)… is this thing on??? Mattel …. HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOO!?!?!?!?”
I swear that John Lasseter has one of those Cars displays showing the gang in Radiator Springs in his office at Pixar.
I wonder if some at Mattel have wondered if they have alienated some of the collectors. Could that be why we may see more Cars 1 vehicles coming out?
Love the Cars 1 Movie poster diorama!!
Forget “Tower Heist” — who’s in on the “Museum Heist” with me??!
If you pay my bail and airfare I’m in.
i’m in!
Man i need to get my collection organized!
