What is the Kmart CARS Collector Event Day?
Twice a year, Kmart stores offer EXCLUSIVE rubber tire racers. You can skip the event and buy an entire case of 20 (link below). If you prefer not to buy an entire case, the in-store event is tomorrow, Saturday October 22, 2011 at 11: 00 AM (your local time).
How Does it Work?
Generally around the toy section, they will set up a table – you will also see some people gathered about (from some to hopefully not too many). At around 11 AM, they will begin letting people draw numbers. The rules are that ANYONE who is capable of physically drawing a numbered ticket is eligible to draw … meaning pretty much anyone from the age of 6 month and up … they will then call out numbers randomly from the draw – if your number is called, the will start to cut open a box for you – you are allowed to select up to 5 CARS in the first go around.
Will I get the CARS I want?
See below for checklist of CARS in this case. It all depends on what you are looking for and it will all depend on how many boxes the store receives and how many people are drawing tickets. Now after everyone who has drawn a number has picked their 5, some stores hold additional drawings – other stores just open it up as a free for all.
How early should I go to the event?
OFFICIALLY, they are supposed to draw numbers at 11 AM and in the order of your drawn number. So, you might show up at 10:58 and draw a low number or show up at 8:30 AM and draw a high number.
WARNING – there are stores that aren’t going to follow the official, guidelines so you probably want to show up at least by 10:30-10:45 and scope out the situation … in some cases, you actually have to remind them to re-read their instructions. It’s by the number you draw and not when you begin to line up.

Note – while SEARS is listed, they do not actually hold the in-store event but some Sears stores will get CARS to sell so if a Sears store is closer to you, you might check it out.

It is just not the same….
All these rules for the event are funny. I only went to 1 event so far which was Day 5 I think. The manager rolled out the cases at the front of the store. He had 6 cases and there were only 6 people there to get cars. He just gave us 1 each, told us to pick out what we wanted, then put the rest in back in the box so someone else could look through them. These were large cases that had the posters and 4 smaller cases in each. I managed to get my son the posters which he loved.
Going this time could be an issue. My son has T-Ball at 10am which runs for about 90 mins. I could pull him out of the game early to go, but all we are looking to get is Lewis Hamilton, he has all the other cars. I want to get a poster for him but to have a chance at that, we have to be there at 11am. I am actually hoping for rain to solve this problem for me. Of course the report says there is ZERO chance of that. I really wanted to take him to this event and let him open a case. I might just have to settle with going alone and getting him the poster when he gets home from the game.
Decisions, decisions.
(MET: The poster should be the same as the last one as the poster in June showed off all the CARS this time. Also note, if you go to a store afterwards and you don’t see what you want on the pegs, it’s almost certainly NOT SOLD OUT – ask the toy dept if they have anymore in the back, 9 out of 10 times, they have plenty in the back).

There will invariably be a completely bored driving-aged high school relative at the game. Just give them your credit card and $10 extra to go buy a full case and get some free posters. When you all get home, have your kid draw a ticket and hold your own event.
Teenagers and credit cards is like drinking and driving. Nothing good will come of it. No, I think I am just going alone to get the cars. There are only 2 Lewis cars per case, so I want to make sure he gets one.

I received my preorder today and the case contents match this post. I was surprised to have them arrive a day early.
No posters though, right? That is the only downside with pre-ordering these. (Well, outside of getting the wrong merchandise.)
I ordered a bunch last time and got master cases sent to me, had plenty of posters, sent them out to everyone who ordered overseas.
Got mine too but I have to leave for work, I will check them later
One case was boxed weird and has a bent card, but all contents are correct.
We have swimming lessons at 10:10, will need to drive backwards fast to make it to K Market on time!
Any word of a poster or bricks of gold or anything thrown into the cases?
I am not counting on a different poster. Last fall they gave out the exact same one as the Spring event. My guess is they will do the same again and we will just get more of the June event posters but we will know for sure soon enough.
It would be “neat” at each Kmart Collector Event if they’d throw in some product from the NEXT event. So for instance, tomorrow they could insert one “Double Ransburg Zamack Paint” World Cup racer in each master carton. Could you imagine the excitement of pulling one of those? It would almost be like Charlie and the golden ticket into the chocolate factory.
Do we know if there will be an updated poster of all the releases? That was the highlight for me last time.
Not a very exciting event in my opinion.
We’ll get to Kmart at some point on Saturday, but I’m not worried about getting to the event at 11 AM.
If they’d thrown in an exclusive release, hopefully something from the first movie, it would surely have bumped up interest a few notches.

Someone changed the rules in June to make us select five DIFFERENT Cars. In the past, we could get as many multiples as we wanted, as long as we drew five Cars total.
