Disney Pixar CARS Land: California Adventure Update
CARS Land Update:
The major news is opening is confirmed for Summer 2012 but that’s hardly a surprise. Previously they just said 2012 but basically they just built in a pad in case an asteroid hit the site but now that all the major works been done …
The OC Register reports that, “The land is scheduled to feature three rides, as well eateries and shops based on the movie’s theme of a town along iconic Route 66.
* The Radiator Springs Racers ride will make up about six of the 12 acres of Cars Land.
* The ride will last about 5 1/2 minutes, going through scenes based on movie themes, including Taillight Caverns. The last third of the ride is a side-by-side race.
* A Curio Shop is inspired by the trading posts that creators saw during a Route 66 road trip to get inspiration for Cars Land.”
Disney also has a page up – but I’m guessing it’s in FLASH as I could not advance pass the first page.

How far a drive is this from Phoenix?
I’d like to drive through the real Ornament Valley on the Real Route 66 along the way.
Disneyland is about 5-6 hours from Phoenix :).

Why oh why wasn’t this built in Florida 🙁
Because Florida has enough stuff as it is. WDW has 4 different parks, whereas Disneyland on has 2, with DCA finally looking like it’ll be easy for me to part with money to finally go through there.
Also, I think since John Lasseter has fond memories of working at Disneyland, he wanted to make it a proper destination place, and defintely try to balance out the feel of ‘6 thrill rides and 400 gift shops’ like the original DCA plans were.

This place looks like I may have to consider taking the kids to Disneyland instead of Disneyworld. Going to be hard to justify that with family in Florida and not California.
Now to find when in Summer 2012 it’s going to open… this will make a nice summer vacation, along with visiting family in California.
