Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS 2: That’s Hudson Hornet Piston Cup Champion to You
“Dodger” spotted this the other day – I had not even noticed it but there is a Doc Hudson-Fabulous Hudson tribute right on the hood of McQueen now …
It looks like the Piston Cup has been renamed the “Hudson Hornet Piston Cup.”
A Profile of the HH now sits on top of the cup. Thanks for spotting this “Dodger!”
So, for those curious – the backstory is that while we witnessed the witless Chick win-shenanigan the Piston Cup way back in ought-O-six … in a documentary called CARS. What we haven’t seen is in 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010, Lightning McQueen wins the Piston Cup/Hudson Hornet Piston Cup.

Since Paul Newman passed in 2008, the logical guess would be that the Piston Cup name change happened in CARS World 2009?
It will be nice to see … though like in Toy Story 3, adults will be cursing Pixar, “Damn you for making me cry.” “No, I’m not crying, these Raisinnettes fell into my eye sockets – I’m just feeling a little discomfort.” “Honey, yes, daddy is crying – these 3D surcharges are killing me!”
And now in our 2011 and in CARS World, Lightning as 4-time Hudson Hornet Piston Cup champion is selected to rep the circuit in the inaugural World Grand Prix against champions of the other circuits.
And yes, thanks for fans such as “Dodger,” we WILL figure out every other plot in CARS 2 just by looking at the decals.

Typical Nascar drivers do this all the time for other drivers and crew members and even for fans who are having health problems.

I am very confident line 2 will be ever more exciting to collect than line 1. The reason? It is a new start, a new beginnig. Did you ever tried to not recreate the same mistake when you have a second chance? or do better when you built your second house? or buying a new car more carefully? You do not need to worry about the previous line rules, even complete line 1… and unfortunately it is now obvious that will happen. This is my opinion. I could be wrong… I could be wrong… hopefully…
Ok, now there will be another McQueen with decals on the sides: “2007 Piston Cup Champ”, “2008 Piston Cup Champ”, “2009 HH Piston Cup Champ”, and “2010 HH Piston Cup Champ”. AND also a Chase McQ with 4 piston cups in one package; I’m thinking that one would have to be Mega/Deluxe size.
Actually, $5.00 says that Mattel will make 4 cars– one for each year with the Piston Cup.
Someone told me a while back that in the beginning of Cars 2 we will see highlights of Lightning winning Piston cups to get us caught up to what Lightning has been up to. Very similar to Rocky 3 when we see highlights of Rocky defending the title.
Looks like this person was correct. That would be the way in which they can keep many of the racers from Cars 1 relevant.
As for the wrecked Hudson Hornet we are supposed to get. Could it be possible it is in the Kmart day 6 case. Maybe as the chase car?
Speaking of Kmart day 6; since lenticulars are supposed to be done for now, I am guessing Kmart day 6 will be all fixed eyes cars only. That would be nice.
What a great tribute… and yes, nice spot Dodger… I’m sure that the colors will be corrected when we see it on the pegs (hopefully) 3 months from today.

I am going to guess that particular McQ is a proto?? Unless the quality control at Mattel has really gone down? The colors don’t match too well do they?
