Disney California Adventures: CARS LAND “Topping Out”
““Topping out” is a traditional construction event among construction workers and engineers that takes place when the highest piece of steel is installed on the frame of a building.
As part of the tradition, the final beam is painted white and signed by the ironworkers, steel design engineer and construction management. This piece of steel will be part of the Pinnacle of the Cadillac Range, representing a 1959 Cadillac, whose tail fin was also known as the Pinnacle.”
There is also a video – from the Disney Resorts Blog … this is actually from last November but the link was buried in the wrong folder …
I had used the phrase ‘topping out’ before but usually just at the buffet restaurant.
This certainly is big news for the building construction crew. This looks like quite the coaster. I think that Disney World needs to follow in its West Coast sibling’s footsteps and start building more coasters. This is an interesting topic that I definitely want to learn more about. I typically check out McGraw Hill’s California Construction site when I want to find out more on similar issues. While I occasionally work with McGraw Hill, they have been a favorite construction resource of mine long before we started working together. If you like staying current on construction news happening around California, check out the McGraw Hill website.
(MET: It’s actually the peaks of the Cadillac fins “mountains” … there is a roller coaster ride but it winds it way around and through like Splash Mountain …).
MET are you planning to do a guide about TOONS only???
(MET: Yep … if the list is accurate, there are only a few more coming so maybe March?)
Can’t wait to see that! At least it may come out before CARS 2… that will help the waiting time. Thanks!
Manifold Jr would like to go “the next day.”
hey, we are so in!
after all, it is like 45 min drive!
Mari, hope to see you there!
One can only wish for such luxuries.
Awesome! I’ve been saying this for a long time but it has been a dream of mine for a long time and finally, this year, we decided to make plans to go….Disneyland! We opened a savings branch (which hopefully won’t be used for Cars funds) and are at least 3 years away at the moment but still very excited!
The best place for construction progress photos is on disneygeek.com. That site has pics current as of Friday, 1/21:
